🦉 The hazel grouse (Tetrastes bonasia)

  • Tetrastes Greek: tetraōn hunting bird, -astēs creator
  • bonasia the etymology is unclear, one of the assumptions is "bonum" good, "assum" roast (lat).

Oh, these are very difficult birds for me. I have a hard time photographing them. This usually happens in spring and autumn. Of course, it is best in spring, when there are no thickets or foliage, and the bird can at least be seen somehow.

These guys are very timid and secretive. They move even without a single sound, which sometimes shocks me. After all, in autumn you can clearly and distinctly hear how, for example, tits and nuthatches jump on dry leaves. And the hazel grouse even runs silently on these leaves.
