Hello, my fellow creative mind. Hope you all are doing well, and happy Monday to you all! Today, I would like to share with you a denim skirt I made for my mum's friend.
Recently, she came to visit and I overheard her talking to my mum that she needed a denim skirt for a hangout. She wanted a midi-length skirt and she couldn't get the length she wanted in the market. I told her that I would make her one in her preferred length.
This is my first time making a denim skirt, and making the skirt was a bit of a hassle. First, I didn't have my tape rule with me because I left it in my mum's shop. So I used a tape I found at home. However, I never knew some tape rules come in different measurement units. I thought they only came in inches and centimetres, but this one is different, I think it is a Korean tape rule. The inches on the tape were longer than normal. Although the centimetre side was correct, I couldn’t use it because I'm used to measuring in inches.
I went out to get a new tape, and then another thing happened. As I was impatiently cutting the fabric, I accidentally cut the pocket side of one of the front pieces. I would have cut another front piece, but I had already used up the fabric. I was devastated and I didn't know what to do, So I just had to stitch the cut with my sewing machine.
Material used:
1yards of denim fabric
Thread
Zip
This skirt took me about 4 hours to make.
My process
I cut the front and the back of the skirt. For the front, I did a 1-inch depth curve on the waistline. For the back, I cut it 1 inch lower than the front.
Then, I cut a 5-inch extension to the back and slanted it with 2 inches.
I cut the front pocket.
The back pockets.
I stitched the mistake that I made earlier.
I joined the skirt and top-stitched all the seams.
I sew the front pocket to the front pieces of the skirt.
I sew the back pocket as well.
I cut the fly and I sew the zip.
Sew the waistband.
I sew the belt loops
I ironed it and this is the finished look
She gave me amazing feedback but didn't send me a picture. I'm glad she likes it.
What do you think? Would you make one too?
Thanks for visiting my blog and stay creative❤️
