Teslas have become a source of moral anguish in liberal neighbourhoods.
Many people who bought them did so because it made them feel they are having a positive impact on the world, but at the same time gave you the capacity to be cool and have fun, with that rapid 0-60 option!
The original buyers were buying a brand that reflected their liberal values, but it would seem that it's now clear Elon Musk is himself no liberal....
With his hypocritical and authoritarian approach to Twitter and his overt attempt to engineer the outcome of the US election with his $1M a day payments to Trump supporters, it's no wonder the the cars have become an embarrassment. Some are wondering whether they should sell them.
It's also no wonder that Tesla sales have fallen, they are down 22% in the first six months of 2024, while other EV sales are up around 30% in the same period. (In the US).
So should Tesla owners sell...?
This seems unnecessary, I mean we can still distinguish the company and the product from the hypocrite Musk. And selling now might be false economy too, I mean it's usually best to get MORE years worth of use of a car than LESS.
But what I'm trying to say is personally I think it's pointless selling just because your ashamed of the boss of the company that made a product, especially when it's only become obvious what a tosser he is AFTER you bought a product for his company.
And if you did sell, it wouldn't be on principle probably, just because he's one of the very few rich people we can obviously associate with an very obvious brand.
I mean we own lots of stuff, much of it made in China, much of it made by companies probably run by people who are just as bad as Musk in their own way, and we're not thinking of selling our TVs or Mobile Phones or Dog Collars because these were made by people who don't share our values!
However maybe draw the line at buying a new one!
