Greetings, beautiful people of Hive Open Mic! I’m glad to meet you for week 231 with the theme Afritunes. When I learned about this theme, immediately came to my mind the historical and cultural heritage of the Afro-descendant peoples of my country Venezuela, especially in the state of Aragua, where I live.

We know that the inhabitants of our coasts have lived under the shadow of calamity since the very moment their ancestors were enslaved and brought from various African countries to these lands during the Spanish colonial period. Not so long ago, a coastal town suffered another onslaught by authoritarian rulers.

It happened that in 1957, the dictator of the time, Marcos Pérez Jiménez ordered the eviction of the original inhabitants of the town of Turiamo, located in the Gold Coast, for the installation of a naval military base, forcing the families to migrate to different areas of Maracay, capital of the state, against their will. Inspired by the struggle still maintained by the descendants of the exiles of Turiamo, I bring you an instrumental cover on congas and bass of a song of the central parranda genre that speaks precisely of the pain that the inhabitants of these lands continue to experience when remembering that arbitrary eviction.

It is the song Recuerdo a Turiamo (I Remember Turiamo), by the folklore group Makuaya as part of their album Resurge. I hope you like it.

The video was recorded with my Redmi Note 10 5G and edited with Movavi and Capcut.
