McDota fried chicken for Dinner

in #hive-14135914 days ago

The name McDota was completely unfamiliar to me until just yesterday. My wife's cousin recommended it and mentioned that it’s a fast-food restaurant specializing in fried chicken.

I am indeed curious and I did a bit of Googling before heading to the restaurant. I was surprised to discover that McDota has been in Malaysia since 1978. That makes it slightly younger than KFC (1973) and even older than McDonald's (1980) in Malaysia.

Currently, there are only two McDota branches left in Malaysia, one in Segamat, Johor, and the other in Sungai Petani, Kedah. Coincidentally, I was in Segamat over the weekend and the name McDota suddenly popped into my head.

Since I was in the area, it seemed like a missed opportunity not to check it out. So, I decided to get our dinner at McDota. My wife's cousin advised us to arrive early because they tend to sell out by 9 PM.

We arrived at 7:30 PM, and a few families were inside the restaurant. However, by the time we received our order, the crowd had grown, and it is true; that they were sold out before 9 PM.

When I stepped into the restaurant, I felt like I had walked through a time machine. The interior was filled with late 80s and 90s posters. Even the menu board is something that we can now only see in 90s movies. This place seemed untouched by time. The whole experience feels like a trip back to the golden days of fast food.

We ordered a 3 piece fried chicken combo and a chicken rice combo, totaling just MYR40, including drinks. The price is quite affordable, especially compared to what you’d pay at KFC or McDonald's for a similar meal.

Not only was it a trip through memory lane, but it was also a wallet-friendly one.
