Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by the English rock band the Beatles, released on 26 September 1969, and released by Apple Records. The album was produced by George Martin. Abbey Road was the last album recorded by the Beatles, but Let It Be was the last album completed before the band's break-up in April 1970. The album Abbey Road was recorded mostly in April, July and August 1969 and reached number one in both the US and the UK. A double A-side single from the album, "Something"/"Come Together", was released in October 1969 and also topped the charts in the US.
The album Abbey Road incorporates styles such as Rock, Pop, Blues, Singer-Songwriter and Progressive Rock, and makes heavy use of Moog synthesizer and guitar played through a Leslie speaker unit. Meanwhile, John Lennon had left the group by the time the album was released, but this was not publicly announced until Paul McCartney also quit the following year. Unfortunately, in 1970 it was announced that the band had disbanded.
Abbey Road was an immediate commercial success upon its release, but still received mixed reviews. Some critics found the music inauthentic and criticized the production's artificial effects. Interestingly enough, critics today consider the album one of the Beatles' best, and it is considered by many to be one of the greatest albums of all time. I think some critics at the time didn't fully understand the Abbey Road album.
George Harrison's two songs on the album, "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun", were regarded among the best songs he wrote for the band. Additionally, the album's cover, in which the band walks on a zebra crossing outside Abbey Road Studios, has become one of the most famous and imitated covers in recorded music history. There are great songs on the album, my favorites are "Here Comes the Sun" and "Come Together". Even though years have passed, I still enjoy listening to these songs, they are truly great works.
