Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
Playing Splinterlands involves deep understanding of the cards along with the modifiers that makes the game different from one another, adding complexity to the game but if you were a new player, learning all this things on ranked battles at the same time can be quite taxing while for veteran players, trying new strategy comes with the risk of losing both their rating and rewards so they would usually stick with a strategy that they know will work. Thankfully, with challenge battles, we can play with our friends without the fear of losing energy and recently, it has been revamped where we can customize many aspects of the challenge.
In this post, I will walk you through on how to use #SplinterlandsCustomChallenges for this week's Community Engagement Challenge.
How To Start Custom Challenge
Challenge Battles is not a new concept to the game. Using this, people can play the game across different leagues without the need to spend any energy as well as choose which cards will be allowed to play. But recently, it has been updated where we can modify the rules of the match, giving more opportunity to test new cards and strategies. To start with a custom challenge, click for the challenge button which is located on the top- right of the battle page.
After clicking the challenge button, a new challenge pop-up window will show and here, there are different fields which you can customize before you send a challenge on another player.
1️⃣ Opponent Field
This text box was used to input the username of the player that you want to invite for a challenge. Alternatively, you can also click on the player's profile and click the challenge button there and the new challenge window will pop-up with the Opponent Field with the username of the player you want to challenge.
2️⃣ Allowed Cards
This field allows the challenger to choose which cards can only be used. It even allows the use of Ghost cards for both modern and wild to allow players the opportunity to practice battles using with the cards that they do not own or cards that has yet to be released like with the previous Hall of Legends card that becomes available on Ghost Card Challenge that can help to decide in purchasing the cards.
3️⃣ Summoner Level Caps
This field limits the level of playable cards similar to the old league tier system that was still in use on guild brawls and tournaments and was divided to 5 different categories.
4️⃣ Mana Cap
Decide the mana cap of the battle between 12- 99, allowing more flexibility when choosing units with high mana.
5️⃣ Rule Sets
This option allows the challenger to choose the rulesets of the battle but unlike ranked battle, Custom Challenge can choose up to 6 rulesets. This makes me wonder if eventually, will we see ranked battles to have 6 ruleset? That will certainly be wild and will add more complexity to the game.
6️⃣ Select Elements
Can choose which elements that will be used in the challenge.
After setting all the fields, the challenger now can submit the challenge to the player that he wants to have a match and that player will have 9 minutes to accept the challenge or it will automatically be cancelled. Once the battle was accepted, both players will now be able to use the lineup that they want for the challenge.
Here, I tried to test the power of the Armored Strike ability by having Commander Slade be given the ability through Summoner Tactics.
Once the battle was concluded, there will be a repeat challenge at the battle results so that it will be easier to create another challenge.
Custom Challenge Requirements
To use the custom challenge, there are some requirements that a player needs to meet otherwise, they will need to pay 10 DEC/credits for each challenge they make. This requirements are made in order to prevent bots to exploit the feature by simulating all the possible challenge to find the most ideal lineups. These requirements are:
🔸 Having at least 50k SPS staked.
🔸 Have a Runi.
In case that the challenge was not accepted or is surrendered, the DEC cost is refunded but if you do not want to pay for the challenge, you can still create challenge though it will have random ruleset and mana cap.
Closing
And that was how you can use the custom challenge. Whether you want to improve your skills, test new strategies, explore the capabilities of the newest cards to the game or test your skills against your friends or other players in the community, Custom Challenge is a fantastic feature that both new and veteran players should try to have a full experience of playing the game without the worry of wasting energy.
Thank you and see you on the next post!
