Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!
As a card game that revolves around the use of different strategies to win, Splinterlands has continued to evolve around the years, introducing cards with new abilities. And with Rebellion, their most recent card set, not only they introduce new abilities but also with a new mechanics called Summoner Tactics. This mechanics has allowed players to get a glimpse of the opponent lineup before the battle starts and give abilities or stat boost on a select number of units from either team.
And so, for this week's Community Engagement Challenge, my goal is to help you to better understand how the Summoner Tactics work and what are the things to consider when using them to help you win your battles.
What is Summoner Tactics?
Summoner Tactics is a new mechanic that was introduced as one of the main feature of the Rebellion Set. Usually, the stats and abilities that summoners give are predetermined and us players have no control over it but with Summoner Tactics, players has now the freedom to choose a limited number of cards which can be granted with certain abilities and stat boost during a phase called the Tactics Stage.
Tactics Stage:
Tactics Stage takes place after the Team Selection Stage where players with Tactics Summoner will have the window to see the both of his and the opponent team for around 45 seconds to help them analyze the entire battle field and choose which units they want to give the abilities and stats that the summoners have. Furthermore, They can also apply Summoner Tactics on the opponent cards which at certain situations has proved to be the optimal choice.
Currently, there are a total of 12 Summoners within the Rebellion set with Summoner Tactics, 6 of which are rare while the other 6 are legendary some of which are the core card of the modern meta.
Battle Showcase:
This is one of my recent Guild Battle where I used Avina of the Wolf as my tactics summoner. This summoner has the ability to grant +2 speed on 2 cards or give the Heal ability on 1 card. In this battle, I decided to give the Heal ability to Captain Katie.
As a result, Captain Katie now has the ability to recover the health that it loses from the enemy attack, allowing her to sustain the damage as she attacks and because of this, we were able to win this battle.
What is Ambush Round?
Meanwhile, there is also another stage that takes place before the battle starts and we call this as the Ambush Round which is also considered as Round 0. On this round, units with the Ambush ability can attack even before the battle starts, giving the damage advantage against the opponent. Just like with a normal round, the Attack Order during the Ambush Round, meaning if there are multiple units with Ambush ability, the faster units will attack first and if the units have the same speed, it will be determined with their rarity and attack type.
Not counting Akane, there is currently 8 cards with the Ambush ability. Most of them are in the fire element.
Notable Interactions:
If a unit with Ambush has a successful hit with Poison, the initial application will trigger at the end of round 0 - before round 1.
Units with Recharge will Recharge in round 0 and attack in round 1 when given the Ambush ability.
Last Stand will trigger during the Ambush round if it is the last Unit left on the team and was given Ambush.
Battle Showcase:
On this Battle, I decided to use the Tactics Summoner, Akane as this summoner can grant the Ambush ability on up to 2 units during the Tactics Stage and grant them to Knight Reaper and Chaos Dragon.
As a result, during the Ambush round, only Knight Reaper and Chaos Dragon were able to attack, removing the Divine Shield that is granted on Uriel the Purifier as well as to inflict 4 damage into it.
Because of the early damage that I inflicted on the opponent, I was able to defeat his units faster which has allowed me to win the battle.
Closing
The addition of Summoner Tactics and Ambush Round brings a new twist into the dynamics of the games, allowing players to strategize post team creation stage. By the way, there are only a few days left before Rebellion packs to be phase out so if you have yet to buy your packs, be sure to buy them now or you may not have anything left.
Thank you and see you on the next post!
