Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Venka the Vile.png

Rebellion was the 5th major set that was introduced into Splinterlands and just like the previous sets, it has introduced a new batch of abilities to the game, expanding the variety of strategies and card synergies that we can use to win our battle. That is why it is important for us to familiarize with how this new abilities work.

And so, with the previous weeks, I did started to have my in depth review on the Rebellion abilities to know what are their weakness and which situations they prevail, and for this week's post, I will take a look on the Charge Ability.

What is Execute Ability?

charge.png

Charge is an ability that allows a melee unit to attack from any position, much more like what melee unit does when playing under the Melee Mayhem ruleset. This makes it a melee exclusive ability so magic so any units that does not have melee attack cannot use this ability. At the same time, Charge is not an opportunity ability so unlike sneak, snipe, and opportunity that gets disabled during Fog of War ruleset, units with Charge can still attack freely.

Prons

  • Allows a melee unit monster to attack regardless of their position.

  • Notable Interactions with other abilities.

    • Lookout does not protect against Charge.

    • Opportunity and Sneak override Charge during Equal Opportunity and Super Sneak Ruleset.

Cons

  • Melee units witch Charge are susceptible from Thorns and Retaliate.

  • A unit with Charge will attack a unit with Taunt unless the unit with Charge is in the first position.

Cards with Lookout Ability

As of the moment, there were only 4 cards with the Charge ability, 2 of which are Soulbound rewards, 1 from the core rebellion set which is Venka the Vile and Riklauniman which is a Hall of Legends legendary card.

Battle Showcase

Battle 1: Frigid Wolf

As you can see in this battle, there was a very low mana cap and only melee units can be used so as a 1-mana melee unit, Frigid Wolf allows for me to use a very low mana card that can attack regardless of the position.

Battle 2: Halaran Huntress

Meanwhile, in this battle, I used Halaran Huntress which is a Flying unit since we were on an Earthquake ruleset and it also has the Snare to remove the opponent's Flying. Then because it has Charge, it was able to attack even when it was on the 4th position and apply Snare to Vampire Bat.

Battle 3: Venka the Vile

Venka the Vile is the very first monster that has the Charge ability and also a the one that has the most amount of damage and like any other abled units, it was forced to attack a unit which has the Taunt ability, inflicting a total of 7 damage to Syrenth and causes for its defeat.

Battle 4: Rikaluniman

For this battle, I guess there was some visual bug within the levels of the cards cause they are only showing level 1 on the progress bar but the stats of the cards are for max level. Anyways, I used the promo card Rikaluniman here which is a range unit that also has melee attack that is why it became possible for it to have the Charge ability, inflicting 2 damage against Mantaroth.

Closing

As a new ability that comes with Rebellion, Charge was a very straightforward ability. It lets melee units to attack regardless of its position which is a very powerful ability specially when fighting under rulesets that only melee units can be used. Makes me wonder why it only comes Rebellion since there was already a ruleset that do the same thing. Anyways, it was a really good ability addition that further enriches the strategy of the game.

Thank you and see you at the next post.

Charge ability can be very good, especially when your linup focuses on melee attackers.
