My Favorite Shades of Gray Strategy

in #hive-133238 days ago

When I see the Shades of Gray ruleset, my immediate thought is to summon the legendary Possibilus the Wise. This summoner’s ability to grant the Reach ability to the monster in the second position makes it a perfect choice, especially when the mana cap exceeds thirty five points. It is a strategy I have refined over time, and I am excited to share one of my recent battles where this approach worked brilliantly.

In the battle I’ll be showcasing, the mana cap was 44, and we had the Stampede ruleset in play. This combination made Possibilus the Wise even more beneficial, as he grants the Trample ability to all monsters. Trample synergizes perfectly with the Stampede ruleset, offering the potential for multiple Trample triggers if the trampled monster is eliminated. With these conditions in mind, I carefully crafted my lineup to maximize synergy and efficiency.

The Lineup

First Position: Coeurl Lurker

In the front line, I always trust Coeurl Lurker to hold the enemy at bay. This monster is a powerhouse with a base speed of four, five melee damage, and a suite of defensive abilities that make it nearly untouchable. Its Taunt ensures all enemy attacks are directed at it, while Dodge and Phase allow it to evade ranged, melee and magical attacks. Adding to its utility is the Thorns ability, which deals two damage back to any melee attacker fortunate enough to hit it. Coeurl Lurker isn’t just a tank—it’s a weapon that punishes enemies for engaging.

Second Position: Arkemis the Bear

Arkemis the Bear thrives in the second position, thanks to Possibilus’s Reach ability. This placement allows Arkemis to attack while remaining protected. Its Halving ability weakens the enemy’s attack power, and its Shield grants damage reduction to the entire team. Arkemis is a cornerstone of this strategy, providing both offense and defense.

Poison Specialist: Uraeus

Uraeus is a versatile and deadly addition to the lineup. With only three mana, it brings a lot to the table: three melee damage, a speed of four, shield, Sneak ability and the Poison ability. Uraeus targets backline monsters, adding pressure and slowly chipping away at the enemy’s composition.

Support: Supply Runner

No lineup is complete without Supply Runner when speed and strength matter. This monster’s Swiftness boosts the speed of all allies, which is crucial for outpacing the enemy. It also boosts health points of all friendly monsters by one due to its strengthen ability. Its decent ranged damage make it a reliable contributor in any battle, and it synergizes beautifully with the rest of the team.

High Damage Dealer: Gem Meteor

The Gem Meteor is my go-to for quick, decisive strikes. With a speed of five and four ranged damage, it excels at piercing through enemy defenses. This monster can deal significant damage before most enemies have a chance to react, making it invaluable in high-mana battles like this one.

Sneak Protection: Halfling Refugee

For sneak protection, I place the Halfling Refugee in the back. Despite costing only 1 mana, it has just enough durability to slow down sneak attackers and keep the rest of the lineup safe. It’s a small investment with big value in battles where the enemy targets the backline.

The Battle in Action Link to the battle As you can see my opponent chose to go for speed by choosing the legendary fire summoner, I find that strategy a bit too random when playing shads of Gray ruleset. In the first round the speed did pay off for them as our front tank missed its hit. But we did managed to land poison from Uraeus which may prove critical In the second round things are still pretty even, but we seem to be starting to pull away In the third round our opponent was very successful finally landing poison on our taunt tank but we were able to really pull away by taking out their Arkemis the Bear using consistent thorns damage from our tank and other hits. We also managed to take out their major magic damage dealer. With the monsters remaining on the field I am pretty confident that we got this one! And just like that it comes to a sudden death for the opposing team. Our Arkemis the Bear was able to do exactly what I discussed kill three monsters in a row! This is all due to Trample combined with Stampede. And we earn a nice win with over eleven SPS tokens in Modern Diamond League:

I always lose against these brute force compositions with this summoner that adds REACH in the second position for all creatures. Great post.

Thanks!
