My Guide to Splinterlands Custom Challenges

in #hive-133239 days ago

The Custom Challenges feature in Splinterlands is a fantastic tool for improving your gameplay skills and earning more SPS tokens. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know about customizing challenges, inviting others, and experimenting with fun rulesets.

What Can You Customize in a Custom Challenge?

Custom Challenges allow you to tweak several aspects of the game to create unique and exciting matches. Here's a breakdown of the customization options:

Opponent
Manually Input Player Name: Enter the username of the player you want to challenge.
Challenge via Profile: Navigate to a player’s profile and click the Challenge button to initiate a match.

Allowed Cards
All Cards: Use any card from both Modern and Wild formats.
Gold Cards Only: Restrict matches to gold foil cards.
Alpha Cards Only: Limit gameplay to Alpha edition cards.
Gladiator Cards: Include +1 Gladiator card when applicable.
Modern Cards: Use cards from the two most recent sets (e.g., Chaos Legion and Rebellion).
Ghost Cards: Allow all cards to be playable, regardless of ownership or rental.
Ghost Modern: Restrict to Modern cards only, but still allow players access without ownership.

Summoner Level Caps
Control the maximum level of cards players can use by adjusting summoner level caps.

Mana Cap
Set the mana cap for the match anywhere between 12 and 99 to test strategies in low or high-mana battles..

Rulesets
Customize the gameplay by adding up to six rulesets. Mix and match for unique challenges, like Aim True (all attacks hit) or Armored Up (all monsters gain +2 armor).

Elements
Control the allowed elements by checking the Select Elements box. You can restrict battles to specific splinters for even more variety.

How to Challenge Other Players

I am going to use one of the examples of a custom challenge by challenging the Leader of our Guild:

You don't have to choose one of the guild members for a challenge and I am describing other options below:

Challenging another player is easy and can be done in a few steps:

  1. Locate the Challenge Button:
From the game lobby, click the Challenge button located beneath your SPS balance.

  2. Choose Your Opponent:
Manually enter their username or click the Challenge button directly from their profile.

  1. Customize the Match:
Adjust settings such as mana cap, summoner level, allowed cards, and rulesets to create a unique experience.

  2. Send the Challenge:
Once everything is set, hit the Send Challenge button. If the opponent accepts, the match begins.

After clicking SEND button you will see the following screen:

Unfortunately our Leader was not available and after waiting for a long while the challenge timed out with a message: "No suitable opponent was found"

I have over fifty thousand SPS staked so for me the customized challenges are free, but at this point you would get a refund if you have less than fifty thousand SPS staked.

Fun and Creative Rulesets to Try

Custom Challenges aren’t just about practice; they’re also a great way to have fun. Here are some ideas for creative matches:

  1. Low-Mana Showdown
Settings: Mana cap at 12, Alpha cards only.
Objective: Test your skills in low-mana battles where every card choice matters.

  2. Gold Rush
Settings: Gold Cards Only, Modern cards, and 25 mana cap.
Objective: See who can craft the best lineup using only gold foil cards.

  3. Gladiator’s Arena
Settings: Gladiator Cards enabled, six rulesets including Equalizer and Stampede.
Objective: Create epic battles featuring Gladiator cards with wild synergies.

  4. Elemental Wars
Settings: Select one or two specific splinters (e.g., Fire and Water only).
Objective: Force creative strategies by limiting the available elements.

  5. High-Mana Mayhem
Settings: Mana cap at 99, All Cards enabled, and multiple rulesets.
Objective: Unleash your most powerful monsters in a chaotic, high-stakes battle.

Cost of Challenges

Unlimited Free Challenges: Players with 50,000 SPS staked or owning a Runi can create unlimited challenges at no cost.

Other Players: Non-customized challenges are free, but customized ones cost 10 DEC/Credits each. If a challenge is declined or surrendered, the cost is refunded.

Why Use Custom Challenges?

For Learning and Skill Building

  • Practice Strategies: Experiment with different card combinations and rulesets to learn synergies.
  • Analyze Weaknesses: Test lineups under challenging conditions to identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare for Tournaments: Simulate high-stakes matches to refine your competitive edge.
  • Prepare for Brawls: Compete against best brawl performers in your Guild to improve for Brawls.
