Beer Tasting: Köstritzer Schwarzbier & Petrus Aged Red

in #hive-1877196 months ago

Hello, beer lovers! 🍻

How are you? Have fun or work? Or traveling? Maybe even resting?
Yes, it's the weekend, and people mostly do whatever they want. I've been doing more work in the garage because it's raining outside. It's authentic April weather, even though we're already deep into May.
Now the fun begins :)
First of all, it's 360 # beers on Saturday, and then I'm off to see two Slovenian stoner bands.

I have two bottles in the fridge: one German and one Belgian. I would love to share the experience of emptying them with you.

First, the one with less alcohol

🍻 😎 🍻

Köstritzer Schwarzbier

Brewed by Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei, Bad Köstritz, Thuringia, Germany.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 4.8% ABV, IBU 22.
It's a Black lager or Schwarzbier style, which means that beer is dark colored, with dominant roasted malt flavors and less hoppy.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Malt is the key ingredient in our Köstritzer Schwarzbier. This is because the particularly intensive roasting of our malting barley into fine roasted malt ensures the fine malty taste and the characteristic strong, dark color. The result is a bottom-fermented black beer that impresses with its unique malt aroma and particularly refreshing taste.

🍺

Excellent, I got it from a friend who was in Germany doing business.

The beer is dark and black, and the head is light brown and creamy. It smells malty. A sip goes smoothly down the throat, and in the mouth, I first taste the bitterness of roasted malt, which is not distracting from the bitterness of coffee, and the discreet sweetness of caramel in the background.
The bitterness of the roasted malt lingers in the aftertaste for a long time.

It's a drinkable and very creamy beer. The bitterness of roasted malt and the sweetness of caramel are well-matched.
It is a perfect dark lager; unfortunately, it is unavailable here and will not be in my fridge.

🍻 😎 🍻

As I mentioned, I spent the whole morning working in the garage because it was raining. I fulfilled my wife's wish that I should make a sort of shelter for the tomatoes in the field because they never did well.
I don't like that type of work because it never turns out how I expect it to.
Nonetheless, I assembled something and drove my pickup truck to the field. Despite the rain, we managed to set up the shelter.

Maybe I'll even wrap it with foil when the weather is better. I hope it won't soon be destroyed by strong wind.

🍻 😎 🍻

Petrus Aged Red

Brewed by De Brabandere, Harelbeke, West Flanders, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 8.5% ABV, IBU 20.
It's a Sour Flemish ale-style beer, which means it's deep red in color, sour, and red wine-like, with complex malt and fruit flavors.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Petrus Aged Red is constructed from a base of Double Brown Ale. 15% Petrus Aged Pale is added to provide a dry character to the brew and give it a slight sour essence. Finally the brewer adds fresh cherries, which are evident in the rich thick head. Petrus Aged Red is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a cherry undertone which makes this brew remarkably drinkable at 8.5% ABV.

🍺

Belgian beers are known for their complex flavors, so I expect something similar. I hope it's not too sour.

The beer is dark, say red, and the head is rich and creamy. It smells of dried cherries. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. It is very sweet and sour, with a cherry flavor predominating.
In the aftertaste, everything disappears quickly except for a discreet bitterness that lingers for a while.

Very drinkable, juicy, and creamy! And sweet and sour! It is more like a very thick cherry juice than wine. Although it has a high alcohol content, you don't feel it at all. I don't know what would happen if I drank a couple more. It's probably better to leave it at that :)
I got it in a Petrus Box that is currently sold in Lidl stores.

🍻 😎 🍻

And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beer? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post.

I guess it must be tasting kinda malty🤔

Yes, it was—Malty and more or less sweet.

Thank you, @idea-make-rich and @ecency!

Nice mix of beer and gardening 😀💪

Haha, thank you. But when I'm doing something, I avoid drinking beer.
I prefer to have it later. 🍻😎 !BEER
