Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
Heat and Saharan sand here. Lots of moisture in the air. The best I can do is to stay in the shade somewhere with a cold beer in my hand and wait for it to get dark when the heat subsides. That's precisely what I'm planning for 364 #beersaturday :)
All the media suggest (brainwash) me that in this weather, you need a lot of fluids. Of course. That is why I put three bottles in the fridge this morning, one Slovenian, one Slovakian, and one Belgian, to refresh myself this afternoon.
And I mustn't forget to water the tomatoes in the evening. And then to the music festival. It's going to be a long day.
The beers are just chilled and waiting.
The one with the least alcohol first.
Crazy Duck Yu-Pi American Weisse
Brewed by Crazy Duck Brewery, Žiri, Slovenia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU 12.
It's a Wheat ale or American Wheat Ale style beer with more hop character and less yeast than traditional German wheat.
What do the Master Brewers say?
It is an American-style wheat beer that does not have the banana taste of classic wheat beer. The focus is on aromatic hops, which offer a lot of aroma and flavor. We used Citra and Mosaic. The name for this beer came about quite spontaneously. We tapped a test keg in a local pub, and a cloudy, vividly colored liquid flowed out of the tap, which smelled when it was poured into the glass. After the first sip, we knew it was JUPI.
🍺
I have never tasted a beer of this style before, at least not that I can remember.
The beer is cloudy yellow, the head is average, and it has no particular smell. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and I taste the bitterness of hops, which has hints of citrus and a mild bread taste.
The bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
This is a very fresh and drinkable beer. There are no bananas or caramel, as is usually the case with wheat beers. It's surprisingly bitter, considering the IBU. It's almost like an IPA. It's locally sourced, and one will surely end up in my fridge.
Kaltenecker Yakima
Brewed by Pivovar Kaltenecker, Rožňava, Slovakia.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 5.8% ABV, IBU 50.
It's an IPA-style beer, hoppy and bitter, usually brewed with American hops with fruity aromas.
What do the Master Brewers say?
A semi-dark, extra bitter, yeasty India Pale Ale. It is a top-fermented beer that is cold-hopped with hops from the Yakima Valley in Washington State. The aroma is citrus. The balanced bitterness is very pleasant and typical of this beer style.
🍺
My first beer from this brewery. I'm curious.
The beer is slightly hazy and amber in color. The foam is average and disappears quickly. It smells of hops. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly. The palate develops a strong hop bitterness with hints of tropical fruits, especially grapefruit and herbs. I don't detect any malt sweetness, maybe a little taste of bread.
All the aromas disappear in the aftertaste, and only the pronounced bitterness remains.
This is a fresh, juicy, and drinkable beer. The bitterness is strong but balanced with the other ingredients. It is a very good IPA for my taste. Unfortunately, it is not available here; it was brought to me by a friend who was in Slovakia. But I will remember it.
Let's move forward!
Petrus Dubbel Brown Ale
Brewed by De Brabandere, Harelbeke, West Flanders, Belgium.
Bottle, 0.33 l, alcohol 6.8% ABV, IBU 22.
It's a Dubel or Belgian Dubbel style beer, a strong, malty, complex ale with rich, malty flavors and dried fruit esters.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Petrus Double Brown Ale is a top-fermented dark beer. It will delight your tastebuds with subtle coffee, caramel, and chocolate aromas. A full-bodied, rich, and heavenly flavor. It is brewed with pure spring water and carefully selected hops and malts. The dark beer, with its subtle and slightly caramelized flavor, is preferably served cool.
🍺
Belgian beers are known for their complexity and perfectionism.
The beer is dark brown, with a solid and creamy head that lasts a long time. It smells of dried fruit. It goes down the throat smoothly, with mild bitterness and flavors of caramel, prunes, and cherries forming in the mouth. It is slightly sour with hints of fruit sugars.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears, leaving a slight hop bitterness at the end.
It's tasty, juicy, and creamy. It has complex and carefully balanced flavors, which is what I have come to expect from a Belgian beer. It's suitable for drinking with desserts. It's occasionally available in Lidl stores, such as Petrus Beer Box.
All the beers I tasted today were of very high quality.
And what else is in store for me? As you know, the European Football Championships are taking place, and in the coming days, which will be very hot, I will be cheering along with the Kalea Euro2024 Beer Box. It looks good :)
And what am I listening to as I write this and taste the beer? Something from yesterday's #newtunes post.
