Growing up, I heard arguments over whether dogs or cats are better. For my stance though, I feel they are both equally good and it depends on what the person is looking for in a pet. If I had to choose one though, I would go with the cat.
Cats are known to be more independent. I wouldn't need to worry about taking it out for walks like a dog would. I also find cats to be cute at least the ones that don't scratch people. Of course dogs are cute too. I really like this one dog on Instagram @hongsn0w. In addition to that, cats are also very tidy. Cats licks themselves to keep their fur clean and furthermore, they know where to poop with a litter box.
Honestly, I have been traumatized before when I was a kid. I got chased by my grandparent's dog when I visited them. My grandpa loved having dogs because they are there to protect the house; the dogs are like security alarms. They will bark if there's any strangers etc so that's what he told me one day on why he had dogs. Anyways after that incident, I would sometimes have nightmares of a dog chasing and biting me. I only realized this when I woke up in the middle of the night screaming when I was a kid because I actually thought the dog biting me was real. My dad and brother woke up too and thought something was wrong with me. I'm past this though and dogs don't scare me anymore so this doesn't affect my choice but something that I wanted to share.
To conclude, I believe there is no better pet unless your pet can dance like I've seen on America's Got Talent; this dog is a beast if you watch the youtube video I linked. I'm just joking though. Everyone loves their pet and all pets have their own unique loveable traits. Personally for my lifestyle and preference, I feel a cat is more suitable for me which is why I would choose to have a cat. I currently don't have one but maybe in the future when I have my own place.
