Happy Monday to all. I will be sharing my battle mage secrets today; the theme for this week is shades of gray. In this ruleset, you can only use neutral units but you can use summoners of any element of course because if not everyone would need a lux vega to even play. I will be sharing my strategy for this ruleset and showcase a battle as well!
My Strategy & Tips for Shades Of Gray
In shades of gray, there isn't many options so it's critical to play the most optimized lineups. There are a few units that are super solid and I will name them all for you: Arkemis the bear, magi of chaos, supply runner, uraeus, venka, grimbardun, chaos agent, xenith monk, venari marksrat, dr blight and mantaroth. You want to look at these units to play in this ruleset. You want to look for arkmies the bear, xentih monk, grimbardun or chaos agent to be the frontline and the rest of the backline is just DPS and support. As for summoners, I find kelya, possibilus, quix and immortalis to be the best choices.
The Battle
The battle link can be found here. I played this battle about a day ago on my scholar account. I made a fateful encounter with one of my friends I made on Hive @mypathtofire. Just remembered he started playing modern and actually I didn't realize I battled him until I went through looking for matches to use for this shades of gray theme. As you can see the ruleset is shades of gray, close range and equalizer. The earth and life elements are banned and there's only 41 mana available.
Discussing My Lineup
Summoner , Possibilus - As mentioned in my tips, possibilus is one of the solid choices to play in this ruleset.
First Position, Dumacke Orc - This card is usually not playable in most rulesets but with shades of gray and equalizer in this ruleset, it's just such a good tank.
Second Position, Arkemis the bear - I chose Arkemis the bear in the second spot since it can attack with the reach from possibilus. It will also stay alive longer to maximize the armor buff to team.
Third Position, Venari Marksrat - I chose this card for the martyr but it also has a nice shatter ability incase enemy plays arkemis the bear which is a high chance.
Fourth Position, Supply Runner - Supply Runner is usually better in the back but since there's close range it's actually viable here with the martyr buff.
Fifth Position, Uraeus - This card was mainly to help attack the backline and try to poison end kill any enemy dps.
Last Position, Dr Blight - Dr Blight was my finisher. It's just there for the late game carry!
Analysis of The Battle
The battle was kind of close but I did win because I was able to do a bit more damage in the front. My Arkemis the bear came in and carried with the halving ability. I also think that having it in the second position was the game changer. The triage from the hoarder actually countered my uraeus so that wasn't too bad of a play. I had good speed luckily so I didn't get too many misses despite my opponent having blind. I'm quite content with my lineup! Good game my friend and hopefully we have a rematch soon!
