Introduction
I had an awesome weekend. I played 7 days to die with Wayfinders on Saturday and my Sunday was pretty chill. I will have an event tomorrow but anyways I've been lacking the time to blog and missed out last week's battle mage secrets but no worries, I'm back for this week. The theme this week is Lost Magic which means no magic units can be used in this ruleset. This includes those with dual attack with magic like magic + range or Magic + melee; these also can't be used. I will be sharing my strategy and tips for this ruleset.
My Strategy & Tips for Lost Magic
Lost Magic is a ruleset that actually removes a lot of units from being played. In this ruleset, you want to focus countering melee or ranged. To counter melee, you can look at thorns or demoralize so a summoner like Mylor would be good or a demoralize like disintegrator. To counter range you want to have return fire or headwinds so a summoner like Ilthain is good or a unit like riftwing is good as well. Another good thiing to have is shield. Since there's only ranged or melee, this will guarantee that the damage is halved.
Personally, in this ruleset I will just spam an opportunity sneak team or a possibilus team with water. If I don't get water, I will use Quix with any other element that have units with the skills I mentioned in the previous paragraph.
The Battle
The battle link can be found here. This battle was on my scholar account. It was a 40 mana cap battle with earthquake, lost magic and melee mayhem. It was limited to earth, death and dragon elements.
Discussing My Lineup
Summoner , Quix - As mentioned earlier, I like to go for Quix for the guaranteed - range if opponent plays any ranged units. It's also good for the speed manipulation so I can go first.
First Position, Harklaw - Harklaw is a solid tank with demoralize and the shield so these are two great abilities for lost magic.
Second Position, Cursed Windeku - I chose Cursed Windeku for the slow and on top of that it can heal itself from the earthquake damage.
Third Position, Rift Wing - This card was used for the headwinds. I had another debuff to range so this would give the enemy -2 range total thanks to my summoner.
Fourth Position, Gargoya Lion - Gargoya Lion was used in this position due to melee mayhem or I wouldn't place it here. It has flying for the earthquake so I thought it would be good.
Fifth Position, Venari Marksrat - Venari Marksrat was a fodder. It's main purpose was to give martyr buff to my Gargoya Lion and my Runic Skyclaw. It also has a nice snare for my opponent if they played a flying unit in the first position.
Last Position, Runic Skyclaw - Runic Skyclaw was my finisher. It was supposed to be my MVP with amazing speed and amazing damage!
Analysis of The Battle
My opponent cheesed me with a double martyr strategy. I can't believe I didn't see it coming as it's quite a common strategy. Honestly, I'm not sure what I was thinking. If I could go back in time, I would probably go with earth and use that double marty strategy as well but I would have Runic Skyclaw in the back instead of Iza the fanged. You can't win every battle and that's the beauty of Splinterlands; the many different strategies available!
