Somewhere In The Middle

I had an awesome day today. I had a dinner celebrating my grandpa's 84th birthday with my mom's side of the family. After that I went to watch Moana 2 with my cousin; the movie had a good story and the animation was nice but for me there was just too much singing. Anyways, today I want to discuss about luck and whether I believe in it or working hard creates it.

For me, I feel I sit in the middle. I do believe there is luck. If I'm playing snakes and ladders, there's no way that game is not luck. That's a game of chance and you need luck to win. You can say the same thing about poker but there's some degree of control with how good you're at bluffing and knowing the hand win %'s but you can still lose from an opponent pulling some god flops. I believe this applies to many things that are outside of our control. If it's outside of our control, it's luck. There are some people that are lucky and get born into a filthy rich family and never have to worry about money. Don't get me wrong they could have other issues in life but money wouldn't be a problem for them whereas there are a lot of people out there struggling right now just barely getting by. For me, I'm fortunate that I was able to grow up comfortably. My mom was able to put food on the table and provide my brother and me with many opportunities to experience things like sports, piano etc. I'm grateful for that but I also feel that I'm lucky because of this. I can't imagine being an orphan or growing up in a super poor family etc.

Then of course there are definitely ways where hard work creates "luck". Opportunities come by and they aren't just handed for free sometimes. For example, there are people that study hard and get good grades. That's how they get scholarships; they put the work in and they applied for these scholarships. Scholarships aren't just going to come to someone by luck. There's effort needed to be made by an individual. A personal example for me could be when I was playing tennis when I was younger. There was a time I was obsessed about tennis; I would ask my mom to drop me at Broadstone Racquet club. I would be there from morning to night. I would play with random people, I would get coaching and I finally made got a spot in the tennis academy at the club. You needed to try out for that academy so it's not something that I could've got in by luck. My hard work paid off there.

I also feel it's not always about working hard as well. Sometimes just the small things like being kind to someone, volunteering for charity, etc can find ways to come around and give opportunities. I feel that I've been given opportunities just because of my personality. I'm nice towards people, I'm efficient and I'm likeable so that has definitely played a role in helping me get jobs, friends etc. While I'm on this topic of giving back to people, I plan to sponsor 5k ecency points for weekend experience on the weekend before Christmas. I also plan on doing a participation contest this month for a community I created called eating-out so do look forward to that.

What are your thoughts on this topic? Do you agree with me if not please do leave some comments so I can understand your view on luck?

Happy birthday to your grandfather 🎂🥰

I accidentally read a small spoiler for Moana, ha ha, tomorrow I'll take my daughters to the cinema to see it 😊

Excellent thought, luck often comes from our actions, I enjoyed reading you, greetings 🥰

I'm agree with you @shawnnft We usually make our own luck. Even if you live in a difficult, unfortunate context, having a good attitude can help your situation improve.

For sure! Opportunities are there. People just got to put in the work

Family is where joy and tears are shared no matter rich or poor. They are your 避风港 and lucky or not, they will be there for you

I actually can't read chinese one leh! I'm banana bro haha. Ya at least most of the time :( got some unlucky don't have or just bad family

First of all, congratulations to your grandfather on his 84th birthday!
Then tell you that I agree with you about luck and those who believe that in life things come only by luck and without any sacrifice....
I wish luck to those people... hahaha

That's right, then effort is rewarded and scholarships will be for those who deserve it...if there is no hard work and good social relations don't expect much in this life.....

I would love to sign up for your community so I would appreciate it if you could send me the link or the name of it.....

I personally cannot say that wealthy people will not have a bit of worry in their lives; because on the contrary, some will behave exactly the opposite.

And I have seen some who barely have anything have the joyous smiles.

The heart is the most important. When content peacefully, whatever status doesn't matter.

The mind of feeling trapped will never be override with the amount of charity done for others.

The freedom of the mind from bount in entrapment of negativity is the key to everything: even luck, as you referred to, will steer towards it.

I personally cannot say that wealthy people will not have a bit of worry in their lives; because on the contrary, some will behave exactly the opposite.

I did say this " Don't get me wrong they could have other issues in life " :P

And I have seen some who barely have anything have the joyous smiles.

Ya for sure! In their world they could be lucky to be where they are at. It's all perspective. There are those born with ahead start and others have to work a bit harder. That is life!

I feel more at ease ever since I came to Malaysia like I came back where I belong. That's why I've stayed in Malaysia despite a lot of people telling me to go back to America. Malaysia is great and I feel that there was some luck that somehow brought me back here. Even though it's bad that my family got divorced but my dad staying in Malaysia gave me this opportunity to be able to come and live in Malaysia. Somehow, me coming back to Malaysia was also helpful to my dad. It's weird how things work. Is it fate is it luck? I just know think the best thing to do is to live a life that we can be happy but also help others be happy too
