Introduction
My weekend is pretty much over. I wasn't able to write about Splinterlands last week because I couldn't figure out what to write about but I got something for this week. Recently, Splinterlands dropped an interesting update to add chests to league advancement rewards so I will share my thoughts on this today.
League Tier Advancement Chests
So a few days ago after the maintenance on Tuesday, people are now able to earn chests from advancing league. This is kind of big because this means there are going to be more chests given out every season. It's probably in the five digits or more chests. I'm not sure about the maths on this but if you know do share in the comments below.
Implications For Free Chests For Advancing
This means that there are more rewards given out. Although these rewards are mostly soulbound but it gives chances for people to get that jackpot. I'm wondering if this is an invitation to bring back bots. I haven't done the math but I feel it could be profitable running bots to get chests for those jackpots. The person can alternate between a set of 100 accounts and stop playing them after they advance to whatever league they cap out at. It's not too hard to reach diamond 1 in wild so if bots did come back I could see them trying to profit from the free chests. This profit of course would outweigh the 2k DEC cost for the wild pass.
There are already people unbounding these soulbound cards and selling them for some profit. Even though it's small if a bot farm would do this at a scale, they could be just extracting more money from the community in a sense. I guess I could be overthinking it but do let me know how you feel in the comments on this change. I think this is good to get new players and encourage people to play but when we have good things that's where bot farms come back to take away. Honestly, I'm not too big of a fan of this addition but I will trust the team know what they are doing and let it play out.
