I'm back here because I just came back at home from my usual walk along the side of the river close to my home and I'm happy to share with you the new entry in the group of the usual birds and ducks we use to watch there: an African The African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus)!
It was the first time I watched this kind of bird, because it's not common here in Italy. When I watched it I had my camera with me and so I could take some pics to understand what kind of bird was.
When I came back at home I googled it and I understood it was a Sacred Ibis that is native to Africa. I read on Wikipedia (here) that the Sacred Ibis is "known for its role in Ancient Egyptian religion, where it was linked to the god Thoth" and watching it I really can understand why. Its black long neck and its black and white body are fascinating, especially thinking about the common white egret we use to watch along the side of the river!
I read also that here in Europe, this kind of ibis is in a list called "Invasive Alien Species of Union concern" and this means this species can't be imported, commercialized or released into the environment so maybe this one (that I've never seen before) came from a Zoo Park or something similar, I don't know.
Well, now I have to run to cook for dinner.
