Another hike up to a view yesterday. This is Snake Mountain overlook in Addison County, Vermont looking north. Its about an hour hike and 1,059 ft elevation gain to the top.
You get views of the entire Champlain Valley. This photo is looking South. The Champlain Valley is the most populated part of Vermont thanks to Burlington which is on the lake.
The area is also the most productive agricultural land in Vermont so you see lots of farms and fields also. Looking west you see the lake and then the Adirondack Mountains.
I took several shots looking west trying to catch a break from the intense afternoon sun.
The sun is finally mostly behind the clouds in this shot. I like that you can see several layers of mountains on the opposite side of the valley (also know as New York lol).
Snake Mountains is a great spot for panos. You can get an expansive view of the lake and Adirondacks but on this day the harsh, autumn sun was not cooperating.
The overlook is actually the foundation of the Grand View Hotel that stood on this site from the 1870s to 1925 when it was destroyed by a fire. I would have loved to visited that hotel.
