Good afternoon, gentlemen, today I feel like writing about one of the most original groups of all time and I'm talking about The Offspring. It was created in the United States, more specifically in California in 1984, its style is punk rock that made it known in the 90s and they are the fierce protectors of it. The band was initially called Manic Subsidal and the group was created by Bryan "Dexter" Holland (vocals and guitar) and Greg Kriesel (bass) and the most curious thing is that they created it after going to a Social Distortion concert.
That said, let's get started.
The Offspring (1989)
- This album was neither a success nor a failure, in other words, it went unnoticed. If you have noticed, all the bands at the beginning, all their songs are not commercial at all, meaning they are playing what they like, but with time they have to become more commercial.
Ignition (1992)
- Second album a little more commercial but not enough for them to be known and so on, they changed record labels to Epitaph Records. As a curious fact, did you know that Dexter Holland, the vocalist is a guy who has a PhD in molecular biology, but in addition to that he also has the title of aircraft pilot and has also flown around the world solo (damn, who would have thought that)
Smash (1994)
- And after 5 years, glory finally arrived. This album is the one that made him known to the whole world, "even me." This album contains the songs "Self Esteem," "Come Out and Play" and "Gotta Get Away."
Ixnay on the Hombre (1997)
- But they would stop there with this album, which continued the success of "Smash" but with a more mature sound. It contained hits like "Gone Away" and "All I Want".
American (1998)
- You already knew that The Offspring are the best at mixing humor with social criticism in their lyrics. Many of their songs touch on themes of youth alienation, social hypocrisy and human relationships, and this album proves it. They also released it and would never come back. The songs "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)", "Why Don't You Get a Job?" and "The Kids Aren't Alright" perfectly demonstrate this.
Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008)
- It is not until this album when some changes begin to be seen with a more mature sound and their punk style from the beginning is hardly noticeable anymore and can be noticed in their songs now.
One thing I'm very clear about about this group is that The Offspring has brought their punk rock style to a wider audience than anyone else knew about and they are also capable of mixing humor and social criticism in their videos and lyrics and they are also capable of connecting with their audience that goes to see them in concert and that has also shown their evolution over time. From the most punk albums like "Ignition" and "Smash
