Good morning! Today, I finally continued working on this WIP which has been sitting in my drawing folder for 3 years. It's a fan art of one of my favorite guitarist, Yokochi "Y.K.C." from one of my favorite bands (coldrain).
This band would sometimes wear costumes whenever one of their lives fall under Halloween. Squid Game was the popular show back then and they surprised everyone by wearing Squid Game costumes. Yokochi dressed as a soldier. I've read he took of the costume after a few songs. Maybe the costume doesn't feel comfortable. Lol.
Y.K.C. as a Squid Game Guard
Red light..Green light..
I really wanted to draw a birthday fan art of Yokochi ever since and when this photo with cool angle was uploaded I was certain that it would be the image I have to draw.
Reference
Comparing the reference and my drawing, I noticed that I drew the face longer. The streaks of light could've been more defined too. Well, sometimes we only notice the difference after working on it. I'd still give myself a pat on the shoulder for a great job even though I almost ran out of patience shading the hands and suit.
Here's the WIP:
Process
This one really took a lot of time to make. The draft sketch and base colors were done back in 2021 and the first layer of red shading on the suit was done last year in an attempt to finish it that same year. Although it took me years to get back to this WIP, I'm just really happy that finally I can show the final piece!
I guess it's due to the Inktober and Zingtober challenges which gave me enough motivation to resume this artwork. :)
(I also don't know why I always felt hungry while making this drawing. I kept scavenging in the fridge and biscuit cart for something to fill my stomach. >.<)
Here's also a timelapse video of my drawing process:
