Today I want to share with you a wonderful experience I had visiting a church in a picturesque municipality. It is the Church of “Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana”, located in the town of Santa Ana, in the municipality Gomez of Nueva Esparta state, on Margarita Island.
Although I found the temple closed due to the time, this motivates me to return another time to show you its great beauty. I tell you that I had to go to this municipality for work, but that is never a problem for me, since I like to combine work with something more relaxed, like enjoying the scenery.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una experiencia maravillosa que tuve al visitar una iglesia en un municipio pintoresco. Se trata de la Iglesia de “Nuestra Señora de Santa Ana”, ubicada en la localidad de Santa Ana, en el municipio Gómez del estado Nueva Esparta, en la Isla de Margarita.
Aunque encontré el templo cerrado debido a la hora, esto me motiva a regresar en otra oportunidad para poder mostrarles su gran belleza. Les cuento que tuve que ir a este municipio por trabajo, pero eso nunca es un problema para mí, ya que me gusta combinar el trabajo con algo más relajado, como disfrutar de los paisajes.
On the way, I could see several businesses selling handmade products. Without thinking twice, I stopped at one of them. As I entered the town, from afar, I saw the church tower and I immediately headed towards it.
En el camino, pude ver varios emprendimientos donde se vendían productos artesanales. Sin pensarlo dos veces, me detuve en uno de ellos. Al entrar a la localidad, desde lo lejos, vi la torre de la iglesia y enseguida dirigí mis pasos hacia ella.
Upon arrival, I was impressed by its large two-leaf wooden door, nicely varnished and in the shape of an arch. At the top of the arch, there was a discreet wooden shutter, also very well varnished, and at the top, a cross that can be seen from afar. On both sides of the main door, there are two tombstones embedded in the wall that narrate the history of the church.
Al llegar, me impresionó su gran puerta de dos hojas de madera, muy bien barnizada y en forma de arco. En la parte superior del arco, había una discreta persiana de madera, también muy bien barnizada, y en lo más alto, una cruz que se puede divisar desde lejos. A ambos lados de la puerta principal, hay dos lápidas incrustadas en la pared que narran la historia de la iglesia.
This church has three large arched wooden doors and six large square louvered windows with wooden bars.
Esta iglesia tiene tres grandes puertas de madera en forma de arco y seis ventanas de persianas cuadradas, grandes, con barrotes también de madera.
Its roof is made of wooden beams and tongue and groove, covered with ceramic tiles. Here on the island, this type of roof is very much appreciated for its coolness.
Su techo es de vigas de madera y machihembrado, cubierto con losas de cerámica. Aquí en la isla, este tipo de techo es muy apreciado por lo fresco que es.
The church also has a bell tower with two beautifully decorated bells and ceramic tiles, it is customary to ring the bell to call the parishioners, a tradition in almost all local churches, even if a church rings the bells out of the usual times, a whole town can be mobilized, because it is a sign that something is happening, out of the ordinary. To climb the bell tower, there is an outside staircase made of slabs and wood. This staircase has a grille that only the priest or the altar boys in charge of ringing the bells open.
La iglesia también cuenta con un campanario con dos campanas muy bien decorados al cual también le colocaron tejas de cerámica, es costumbre tocar la campana para llamar a los feligreses, una tradición en casi todas las iglesias locales, incluso si una iglesia suena las campanadas fuera de los horarios habituales, todo un pueblo puede movilizarse, porque es síntomas que algo ocurre, fuera de lo normal. Para subir al campanario, hay una escalera exterior hecha de losas y madera. Esta escalera tiene una reja que solo abre el padre o los monaguillos encargados de tocar las campanas.
The church is painted white, which stands out with its varnished wooden windows and doors. On its sides, there are beautiful trees that provide cool shade and contrast nicely with its modern architecture.
La iglesia está pintada de blanco, lo cual resalta con sus ventanas y puertas de madera barnizadas. A sus lados, hay hermosos árboles que proporcionan una fresca sombra y contrastan muy bien con su arquitectura moderna.
On the left side of the church, there is a sports field for young people, called “Los Tres Guaiqueríes”, and also a small park for the youngest children, very well delimited and well kept.
En el lado izquierdo de la iglesia, hay una cancha deportiva para los jóvenes, llamada “Los Tres Guaiqueríes”, y también un pequeño parque para los niños más pequeños, muy bien delimitado y cuidado.
In front of the church, there is a park surrounded by trees and benches where parishioners sit and wait for the church to open its doors. This park is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Frente a la iglesia, se encuentra un parque rodeado de árboles y bancos donde los feligreses se sientan a esperar que la iglesia abra sus puertas. Este parque es un lugar perfecto para relajarse y disfrutar del entorno.
Anyway, I loved the modern architecture of this church, white in color, which contrasts very well with the greenery of the trees that surround it.

En fin, me encantó la arquitectura moderna de esta iglesia, de color blanco, que contrasta muy bien con el verdor de los árboles que la rodean.
