AI Is Going To Kill News Sites

in #hive-16792211 days ago

We are seeing the end of news sites.

Technology is changing everything. This is put into overdrive when we consider the implications of generative AI. One of the areas I foresee getting crushed are news sites.

It is said that X is nOW the number 1 source of news. Whether that is accurate, it does show the power that platforms such as X, Facebook and YouTube have.

How is this going to affect the news world?

This is what we will give into.

Generative AI Will Kill News Sites

Consider what chatbots from these social media platforms can do. They have the ability to not only train very large models, they also have access to real time data.

Throughout the day, people are posting the latest events relating to whatever area they are interested in. X and FB are filled with text, videos, and pictures of events as they occur.

While this is a hit to the news sites to begin with, generative AI is going to take it to another level.

Since there is continual uploading of events to these platforms, the AI is going to be able to start writing articles about the events. These might not be 1,000 word essays but short snippets of a few hundred words describing the events.

Like always, the power here comes from the sheer magnitude of what is can do. These can be pushed out at a pace that is unmatched by any human. It is one of the main advantages of compute.

Plus the AI can bring capabilities that humans cannot.

For example, not only could it structure the events for a political viewpoint, it could provide whatever writing style is preferred.

We also could see the delivery changing.

News Upon Request

At the moment, information is garnered when individuals want in a manner that is simply presented as the creator sees fit.

What this means is that if we head to a news site, the articles available are not of our choosing. We only can select from what is posted.

With generative AI, with updated real time data, we can ask it about any event and, as long as it has the information, it can write us a summary/article in a way that is preferential to us.

For example, perhaps you do not like to read article but want the information in bullet points. The bot will do that.

We also could be looking at the potential to set up the bot to supply us with what we desire autonomously. Perhaps you are one who like the Los Angeles Lakers, stock market, Boston Red Sox and anything relating to Italy.

The bot could be personalized to provide us with the most recent information regarding those topics. Anytime something is added to the database, it pulls it and can deliver in the manner established.

Naturally, the news sites will likely try to incorporate this. However, their challenge is still the data. When you look at the massive quantity that is supplied to the social media platforms, it is hard for a single company to compete with that.

Hence, the idea that X is the number 1 source of news is not without logic. We can expect the other entities to start building aspect of their platform to cater to this audience.

If the forecast that the next generation of LLMs is going to be two orders of magnitude more powerful than what we have now is correct, this is going to be very possible in 2025.

We could see the volume from the news sites sucked out very quickly.

News sites haven't had news for years anyway, we need some kind of change.

That is true....although there are a number that still focus upon it although it can be extremely biased.

This is why I feel there is no news anymore. News should just be news, once you put the tilt of bias on it, it quickly crosses the threshold of opinion.

That is why more are turning to social media. People can post stuff in real time about what is going on. That is a much different approach than a centralized news department deciding what gets covered and how it is presented.

Still could be biased depending upon who is posting but can find what is sought.

I think the customized curation of news and being able to compile different news sources for a more objective view of news are big advantages of AI. If big news sites close down, I wonder if we get less news, since they are also the ones who pay and send out correspondents. Sure we can get info from people on the scene, but one can't deny the courage of correspondents that go and stay in dangerous areas.

Yes, the bot can generate news based on one's preferences when being prompted. It can only perform this action just because it has already been fed with such data and can only supply information based on the data it has collated. But can it supply on the spot events happenings or live news? No. So even if it's existence may shake the news sites, there are limits to its operations.

We can start to alter the trend on Leo. That is why the News threadcast is so important.

Actually artificial intelligence is really changing so much about the internet world and changing a whole lot of things actually

Naturally, the news sites will likely try to incorporate this. However, their challenge is still the data. The data they gave out are still pushing in freely.
Nevertheless, I feel they'll be a competition from here between news site and social media platforms.

Their challenge is they drive the news output. On FB or X, it is the users (consumers) who share what is taking place.

looking at the angle that they are always first contact of info (users read news before adding to social medias) can it also be added advantage to news sites. I don't know how to entire describe it but if they could incorporate AI here they also stand a chance. Maybe I will have to expand my idea in an article before this week runs out. I'll do well to let you know and contribute
