Moana 2

What better way to enjoy the weekend than by watching a visually appealing animated film?

When I heard last year that Disney will be releasing a sequel of the Moana movie, I was thrilled and anticipated its release but when it was eventually released, I had cold feet about watching it immediately because I wanted the whole hype to cool off. I like being late when it comes to watching blockbuster hits and that’s because I want to have my own opinion of it rather than having an opinion of it because of what a particular group of people said.

Synopsis

Everything seems to be perfect on the island until Moana discovers that there are other villages like hers which need to be found. She receives a call from her wayfinding ancestors and upon her shoulder is placed the responsibility to journey across the ocean to find an island, Motufetu, defeat the god of storm and lightning, break the curse and reconnect the people of the ocean. This mission is unlike anything Moana has ever experienced. It seems impossible and extremely dangerous as she and her new crew journey through long lost waters.

My Review and Rating

I’m a sucker for adventurous films. It’s even a plus when it’s animated, quirky, with breathtaking visuals and awesome characters.

Set three years apart from the original, I was expecting to see some changes, as in, Maui becoming less saucy and more accommodating but excitingly, he remained his authentic self and again, I was on chokehold. Dwayne Johnson was stellar with that voice acting and I also liked that he and Auli’i reprised their roles as Maui and Moana.

I’m also excited this movie doesn’t lack the originality of its predecessor. It's just as visually stunning, with applaudable chemistry between the lead characters.
By the way, I absolutely love the new characters that were added to this film, especially Moana’s little sister.

Initially, after watching the trailer, and seeing just the clip of her and Moana, I thought she would be taking over from Moana, being the next wayfinder and going on adventures but I was disappointed in a good way. Moana played the big sister role well, one that’s aspirational.

One thing I admire so much about this film from the original is the myth surrounding the narrative. I was absolutely stunned.

I’ll leave it with a ⅘ rating. It’s a brilliant adventurous film. Worth watching with the family.

I truly enjoyed the movie, I watched it recently and couldn't stop myself from crying... I lost my grandmother a couple of months ago, so the parts when Moana's grandmother appeared made me a little bit too emotional, but that's part of the experience, right?

Thank you very much for your review!

Oh, accept my heartfelt condolences. Do have a lovely day and stay strong. Hugs 🌸
