I spent several years in the 1990's living in South America. It's a beautiful continent with so many amazing places to visit. One of the countries I enjoyed visiting was Peru, there are just so many nice people there and amazing places to visit. Probably the biggest tourist spot in the nation is Machu Pichu, which I'll talk about a little later on in the post.
Ever since I was a kid I was a coin collector, so whenever I was travelling I tried to find some local silver coins. This one I believe I found on my last trip there, these are really cool coins that were produced for years. What I liked about this one was the date, made in 1893. It's still in relatively good shape considering it's age. Finding pristine coins in this age range isn't easy and they tend to be really expensive. This one is called Un Sol (One Sun), and many of the silver gold stacker community have one or two of really special coins. Have a look at this one, it really is nice shape.

About the coin:
From numista.com
I love the design they used on these, it's just a really pretty coin. From back when nations took pride in their coinage and wanted them to be works of art. Unfortunately, in the US we've lost that and and have pictures of old dead dudes on our money. This coin is made with 90% silver and weighs just about 25 grams. So if we do the math it contains 22.5 grams of silver, and at current prices it has $23.40 worth of silver. But collectors will pay much higher prices. This coins I could probably sell for around $40 or a bit more, but I have no plans to part with it any time soon!

When visiting Peru one spot that is a must see is the ancient city of Machu Pichu. Build around 1450 A.D. it sits in the notch between two large mountains at an elevation of almost 8,00 feet (2430 meters.) It truly is an amazing place and one of the last cities built by the Inca before the Spanish conquistadors put an end to their rule. Fairly little is really known about it as the Inca didn't haven't written language that was left behind. From the 1600's until the early 1900's it was essentially forgotten. Upon rediscovery, extensive archeological work started and is ongoing to this day.
Getting there can be a bit of a challenge. It's located in southern Peru in the mountains, so one can climb up the paths to the city or take the train, which is much easier and faster. They currently limit the number of visitors to 2500 a day, so you might want to check before planning a visit to see what you need to do to secure one of the slots. It's worth the trip if you ever have the chance to go to Peru!
That will do it for me today. I hope you enjoyed seeing my Un Sol coin of the day. I love old coins, it's fascinating to think about who might have held that coin in their hands over all of those years. And when I'm no longer here on this earth, this coin will still be around! Living history in your hands! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. It is deeply appreciated! Have a great day!
