Friday has finally come at last! Halloween is right around the corner on next Thursday, so this post will have to be my Nineties Friday Halloween post. For those of who who are new to #ninetiesfriday it's a weekly event where you can share just about anything from the 1990's, your imagination is literally the limit. The best part is one person is randomly selected to win six HSBI units, three from @geneeverett and three from me. Just publish your post in the Nineties Friday community, and it's never a bad idea to tag @geneeverett and use the tag #ninetiesfriday.
To start off this week's edition I thought it would be fun to begin with some fun Halloween movies. I did consider using the obvious Halloween movies starring Jamie Lee Curtis because there were two in the 90's but way too easy. I decided to start off the fun with the original movie that started the same named series "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" starring Kristy Swanson and the late Luke Perry.

If you somehow missed seeing this movie, you missed out because it's a lot of fun. Buffy Summers is a high school student who discovers that she is the chosen vampire slayer. I'm not going to give away the whole plot, but if you're looking for a fun Halloween movie this one is a great pick. It was written by Joss Whedon who by coincidence created the series as well. This one is worth checking out!
The Haunting
horrormovielistt.blogspot.com
This film from the late nineties had an all star cast of Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Owen Wilson. I managed to find a picture of the original poster you would have seen in the theater, those are hard to find! The film's plot revolves around a doctor (Neeson) who brings a group of insomniacs to a spooky old house in hopes of helping them overcome their insomnia. However the house is haunted by a very evil and violent ghost. If you haven't seen it's nice scary movie, I recommend it!
New Contest
I'm adding in a new contest today just for fun. There will be a movie quote from the 1990's and you have to tell me what film it comes from and the character who's line it was. First person to answer correctly wins one HSBI unit. Here we go: "Baby, the other, other white meat. Baby, it's what's for dinner"
Good luck!
Now for some music from the decade.
Rob Zombie
redandblack.com
You can't do Halloween right in the nineties without including the one an only Rob Zombie. Obsessed with zombies from the time he was a child he saw just about every zombie film ever made. He then named his band White Zombie to honor the first zombie film ever made by the same name in 1932. In the 90's he went solo and released "Hellbilly Deluxe" which climbed the charts quickly in part due to this first hit which I've shared before (but it's so much fun): "Dragula"
Susanna Hoffs

I bet you didn't see this one coming!
OK, so this picture definitely comes from the 80's, and if you were a fan of The Bangles you will recognize Susanna Hoffs right away. After The Bangles fell apart as a band (mostly because Susanna was the prettiest and got the attention) she embarked on a solo career. For the movie "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" she recorded a cover of a song originally written by Danny Elfman and recorded by Oingo Boingo. I'm including this mainly because it comes off the sound track for the movie, and she has a great voice. Her version really doesn't measure up to original, but she did her best. Here's "We Close Our Eyes":
Oingo Boingo

It's hard to do Halloween right for the 1980's without Oingo Boingo, however they did have a couple very successful hits in the 90's. Led by singer/ song writer Danny Elfman this band released the album "The Dark at The End of the Tunnel" in 1990. This song was included in the film "Ghostbusters 2" in 1989, but technically wasn't released until one year later. This one is called "Flesh N' Blood":
The Smashing Pumpkins
grunge.com
I'm stretching it a bit here (Halloween wise), but they are Smashing Pumpkins and the first line of the song here is: "the world is a vampire". This classic nineties band came from Chicago and in 1995 released their huge hit album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". And the song is: "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"
And because most of my 1990's experience was living in Spanish speaking countries, I like to throw in at least one song form the era in Spanish. However, I couldn't of really think of any with a Halloween theme. So I went with something fun instead...
Thalia
fanpop.com
Thalia is a Mexican Singer who started her career very young in the band "Timbiriche", but went solo in the 90's. She had a lot of hit songs in the later part of the decade, and is always fun to listen to. She also has great videos and this one is a perfect example. Plus it's almost Halloween and she did have green hair in parts ot the video, so why not? This is "Mujer Latina" (Latina Woman):
That will wrap up this 90's Friday post. I hope you enjoyed all or at least some of the movies or songs. Also remember the first person to answer the movie quote with the name of the the movie and the character who says it wins one HSBI unit. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. I really do appreciate it! Have a great weekend!
