Although it was not my first time visiting Yogya and Malioboro, but still, since my lodging was also on the same street, I took a walk and saw what had changed in Malioboro after years of not being here.
Of course, the pedestrianised area is getting tidier, because the shop terraces that were once filled with traders have now been tidied up to other places. There are also many malls that have been built, making Mallioboro look more modern and more ‘urban’ than before.
Along the peedestrian, seats are lined up and make it comfortable for visitors who want to relax while enjoying the density of traffic flow in this area. In addition, there is also a bicycle parking area. And of course, the iconic delman. A horse-drawn vehicle like a horse-drawn carriage. I remember when I was a kid, I used to love riding this delman to go to the market. Although the distance was a bit hefty, I didn't think that riding a horse-drawn carriage would be so sad when I think about it now. Hahaha... even though horses are indeed animals that have been used as a means of transport since a long time ago just like buffaloes or donkeys, but still now I prefer not to ride them. For me, I've had enough of my childhood memories.
The house and shop on the right had not changed, still the same as before. While I sat on the pedestrian and enjoyed the traffic, I also photographed some of the hotel buildings that were uniquely shaped in my opinion.
One of them is MUTIARA HOTEL which still maintains the old style. Also the facade of this brown-coloured Maliobro mall. Why am I imagining a chocolate bar that I can cut and eat? Hm... is it because I'm hungry? LoL
Walking towards Beringharjo, it turns out that there is a part of Maliobro that is now used as a place for new tourist attractions, such as RUMAH HANTU MALIOBORO whose deopan is dominated by red colours resembling a temple.
Not far from there, there is also a similar attraction, namely, the RED HOUSE: JOGJA HORROR MUSEUM. I don't know what the wave is that makes a street as beautiful as MAlioboro also become a place for horror tourism. Maybe it's because the public's interest in this urban story is also very massive, so business people must take advantage of it as much as possible to become a profit field.
That's how I reminisce about Maliobro Street. I don't know when else I can come to this street, and will this place change even more differently? There are always changes from time to time, especially when it comes to tourist attractions like Malioboro. However, whatever it is, the important thing is that we can enjoy the journey for the sake of the journey that we do, right?
Finally, that's all the writing from me this time. Thank you for reading to the end. See you in the next post....
Hi, I am the child of the universe, I like to read books with various genres. I was born in the city of batik but can't draw batik yet. I want to be a novelist, but my works are only short poems that are included in anthology books.
