Yesterday I made an appointment with my friend to meet at a mall not far from my place. It's a very big mall because it's divided into three parts: PIM 1, PIM 2, and PIM 3. This mall is usually a favourite hangout spot for the upper middle class. Actually, there is no benchmark as to why it has to be the upper-middle class who don't hesitate to go to this mall. I myself chose this mall because, aside from its proximity, there are also a variety of food options. There are three large food courts that are super complete, from Asian and Western food.

Entering from the Street Galery door, I headed straight to where my friend was waiting. After some deliberation, we decided to look for a food stall with gravy at the PIM 1 food court. At first, we were torn between choosing the Vietnamese Pho or the Golden Lamian, which has a very distinctive gravy. However, we decided to go for the other gravy food.

Yes, even though I was in Indonesia, the stall was called Yong Tau Fu Singapore. Perhaps this stall is a branch of Singapore. I forgot to ask the stall keeper. All I remembered to ask was what kind of food it was. It turns out that Yong Tau Fu is a Chinese speciality. However, the one in PIM is halal certified. No pork, no lard.

Since it was my first time, I also found out that we customers have to choose our own (self service) for the filling that we will eat. Bowls, trays, and food grippers are provided.

MENU SELECTION

In the trays provided there are at least more than twenty kinds that customers can choose from.

  • There are various variants of meatballs and kamaboko, such as; big fish meatball, beef sausage, chikuwa, crab ball, crab stick, fried fish ball, fried fish cake, king crab chunk, lobster ball, and others.

  • As for side dishes, Yong Tau Fu serves noodles, vermicelli, rice, shirataki noodles, konyaku, and kwetiauw.

TWO GRAVY OPTIONS

The two kinds of soup to choose from are tomyum soup and broth. Once the customer has chosen the contents of their bowl, they hand over the bowl to the booth keeper for payment and filling with the soup (There is a specialised soup service inside the booth).

Even though it was my first time, I was very confident with the tomyum soup, and sure enough, it was very refreshing. My friend and I are hard-core tomyum soup lovers. In my bowl, there was enoki, beef sausage, takwa tofu, vegetable tofu meatballs, pakcoy, and a side dish of vermicelli. We also got soy sauce and sliced chillies in separate containers.

That night, apart from feeling warm from the tomyum soup, I also felt refreshed because my friend told me and shared new knowledge about the historical-themed film he had just watched.
