Our house's roof had been leaking for a while now and it is one of our major problems this year. It startses small in 2023 and all we did was put a pail to catch leaked rain water and that's it. Life is hard and finances are hard to earn so we spent on things that are more priority.
We had a very long dry season this year and so we forgot about the leaking roof until it rained again and the leak quadrupled! Now there are more areas that leaked due to rust and degradation. We tried fixing them with sealants but the leak persisted since the raust ahd eatena huge amount of the steel roofing.
We did not install ceiling and the dirty kitchen was inside and the smoke could reach the roof and caused to stain then rust settled. The roof had served for almost 10 years, my daughter was just a year old when we had our own house and now she's 10.
The same happened in my mother in-law's house, we planned on fixing theurs first when we have money but my sister inlaw came to fix it first thus we had our chance to fix ours now.
I was hesitant at first, my wife had been telling me she wanted to do things but last night, it was raining and we decided to fix the roof so we could have our things at home and live better. It's really hard back then because we had to prepare for the leak everytime we go out so whenever it rains, there will not much damage.
Early today, I went out and looked for a carpenter and bought materials before my wife change her mind and we changed the roof for less than 8 hours!
Salute to all the construction workers! Especially to my friend, Alwx who was working under the scorching sun with only his sleeveless on. It was very hot today but he kept on working up in the roof until we finished.
My wife had been complaining about how dim our house became after I installed an extension last year so we added a plastic roofing that allows light to enter during the day. All in all, we replaced 9 corrugated sheets and 1 plastic sheet.
After the installation, my living room seemed to be higher, wider and cooler! I got used to have a black roof that dimmed the house which felt a bit squeezed.
My kids wera also amazed with how our living room turned out today and proudly told their mama when she came home from work
They too had been very busy with us today trying to help me and my friend on our work.
It did.not rain today and the new roof had not been tested yet but I am sure there won't be any leaks at all. Soon on Monday, we will be working on fixing my dirty kitchen and trapping the smoke to refrain it from going to the roof.
I was delighted of our success today, and I am grateful to God for all the patience, strength and blessings He gave.
