Greetings to all beloved Hivers! Last year, I had many trips, and I want to share some of them with you here. So, this time I choose my camping trip to be posted.
A Peaceful Getaway to Kirirom: Camping and a Heartwarming Discovery
If you love nature, fresh air, and outdoor adventures, Kirirom National Park in Cambodia is a great place to visit. Located in Kampong Speu province, about maybe 100 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh, Kirirom is famous for its pine forests, cool weather, and scenic views, Kirirom has a cooler climate due to its higher elevation, making it a perfect spot for camping and exploring.
My Trip During Cambodia’s Water Festival
We visited Kirirom in November, during Cambodia’s Water Festival, a big national holiday. This festival is known for boat races, celebrations, and family gatherings. Instead of staying in the city, my family decided to spend time in nature for a short but relaxing trip.
Our plan was simple: camp for one night, enjoy the fresh air, and have a BBQ under the stars.
We arrived in Kirirom in the late afternoon. The cool weather and the scent of pine trees immediately made me feel refreshed. After finding a nice spot among the trees, we set up our tent and prepared for a night outdoors.
As the sun set, we started our BBQ. Cooking in the open air was a fun experience. We grilled meat, sausages, and vegetables, enjoying the food and the quiet atmosphere. With no bright city lights, the stars in the night sky were clear and beautiful. It was peaceful.
Sleeping in a tent in Kirirom was comfortable and refreshing. The cool night air made it easy to sleep, and in the morning, I woke up to the sound of birds and the fresh scent of the forest and having a hot coffee with instant noodles.
Discovering Sala Doung – A School with a Special Story
One of the most interesting places I visited in Kirirom was Sala Doung. At first, I thought it was just a viewpoint, but I soon learned that it is actually a special school built from recycled materials!
A local man started Sala Doung to teach children in the area for free. To support the school, he sells coffee and uses the money to help the kids. I was amazed by his kindness and dedication. It was inspiring to see how one person’s effort could make a big difference in the community.
Unfortunately, I was so busy looking around that I forgot to take a picture! But if I visit Kirirom again, I will make sure to capture the unique design of Sala Doung and support the school by buying more coffees.
A Trip Worth Remembering
After just one night in Kirirom, I felt relaxed and happy. It was a great way to take a break from city life and enjoy nature. The cool weather, peaceful forests, and amazing people.
If you ever visit Kirirom, I highly recommend stopping by Sala Doung. It’s not just a school—it’s a place filled with hope and kindness. And, of course, don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful pine forests and fresh mountain air!
Thank you for your precious time ❤️✨
