Beyond The Looking Glass is the second book in the Unseen series, a story that came to me from the other side. A story where I thought I was just the narrator until I heard the Words of the Unseen.
This second story goes beyond time and place and mixes the long ago with the here and now. Because history keeps repeating, until we learn and do something about it.
Beyond The Looking Glass - Words of the Unseen - Chapter 55
Together, we walked home. She spent the end of the evening at the bar. It was so close, but I could only seek out the proximity as I walked past, and even then, somewhat inconspicuously, which is still her wish.
I don't know what she's trying to hide, but her moods often change. But now that I'm walking here hand in hand with her, there's no doubt. This feels great, even better as she pauses, looks at me, kisses me, giggles, and walks on.
In our much-too-small bed, there's enough room even with her wide hips and belly. Yawning, she lies in my arms, and then, when I think she's fallen asleep, "Is there chocolate?"
I have to laugh, "Yes of course there is chocolate but who wants chocolate now?"
"Me," says a soft child's voice. Are we playing the same game from this morning again? I can play that too.
"And who's me?"
Two very large, still-happy eyes look caught.
"Just Me, Claudia." she says while putting on a deep growling voice.
"Yeah, right that's exactly how Claudia talks," I have to laugh. "Who are you?"
She turns her head away.
"Hey, calm down, I won't eat you. But I do want to know who wants to eat the chocolate."
She carefully turns her head back and slowly I see some of that enormous radiant joy in her eyes again.
"I am, me, eh, the Little One, that's what She always calls me, I don't really have a name I think."
Okay, I expected a lot but I didn't see this coming.
"Okay Little One, I'll get you some chocolate. Do you want a Kinder Surprise egg?" I ask while I point to the egg that is on the nightstand next to us.
She nods enthusiastically.
Like a child, she removes the foil from the egg and sinks her teeth into it so hard that she bites the yellow casing of the surprise. She takes the yellow egg and puts it away, she looks at the shell in annoyance.
"That's not chocolate," she says sadly.
Really, nobody can play this without bursting out laughing. But if this isn't acted what do I have lying in my bed? Seriously is Claudia Schyzo?
I can't think of anything else that can explain this because I'm lying here in bed with a child. A child in the body of a voluptuous Latina, mind you. But that only makes the situation stranger.
"No, that's your present."
"Present?"
Her eyes look even happier when she is repeated. "Is it a chocolate present?"
I have to laugh, no it's usually something to play with.
"Oh," comes a very bewildered face.
What the fuck, if this is a child why is a present to play with a disappointment. I didn't see this coming either.
When she finishes the egg she grabs the yellow inside and tries to open it, without success.
"Papa Tijnie can you help?"
Now I'm the one who looks upset, "Papa Tijnie?"
She looks like a little child who's been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "Yes Papa Tijnie, that's what I always call you at school."
This can't get any crazier. At school?
Where's the camera, I mean thanks I'm Punked. But you just can't mean it.
"At school?" I ask.
"Yes, I have to go to school with She very often. She gives very good lessons and a lot of people come to her lessons."
A mouth full of teeth is putting it mildly, but now I'm going for it too. I want to win this game.
"Okay, Little One, who else knows you besides Papa Tijnie?"
The big eyes look at me.
"I'm never allowed to come, they say people look funny when I come. So actually no one, and Mister Bas."
She starts to yawn and I see her eyes tremble slightly, is it my imagination or do I even feel her breathing change?
"Why did I eat chocolate?"
Claudia looks at me sleepily, I recognize the look. The eyes that I'm so crazy about are back.
But how do I explain this?
"Ehh, you know." I start carefully.
"I don't know if or how to say this. But sometimes you're gone and then a little girl comes inside you....."
My explanation sounds almost questioning. Maybe it is because I can't imagine that she doesn't know what I'm talking about.
She looks at me with a half smile. "What do you mean?"
"Well, do you ever notice that you wake up and don't know exactly what just happened?"
The smile disappears and she looks slightly shocked.
"Ehh sometimes, but then I just doze off or something?"
Then she shakes her head, "No then I'm really gone. Because when I come back they quickly show me pictures so it seems like I know."
They?
What does she mean by they?
I don't want to jump in, either she's playing it or this is really the first time someone asks about it.
"They show you pictures?"
She nods, "It goes really fast, actually everyone always thinks I was spacing or something. I never really understood it myself. I only know because sometimes I wake up somewhere and I didn't even know how I got there."
