Alcobaça Monastery - Portugal's first Gothic building
Today, even though I'm feeling a bit under the weather as far as my health is concerned, I wanted to post here in one of my favorite communities!
I revisited an old photo album I took in March 2005... Imagine that! When I was visiting with my girlfriend at the time. Many years have passed... And I decided to take some of the photos I took in color and edit them to bring out the best in them. The magic of black and white is something I really enjoy!
I chose photos of the façade of one of Portugal's best-known buildings - the Monastery of Alcobaça. Built in 1178 by the monks of the Cistercian Order, it is the first entirely Gothic building to be erected on Portuguese soil (source).
As you can see from the photos, the building's height, with its large windows, in addition to the intricate stonework, is what is most striking and impressive.
When I have the opportunity to visit these places, I always lose myself, trying to capture the shadows, the contrasts and the shapes that leave me mesmerized by their richness and uniqueness.

Revisitei um album antigo de fotos que tirei em Março de 2005... Imaginem! Quando lá estive de visita, com quem na altura era a minha namorada. Muitos anos já passaram... E decidi, pegar nalgumas das fotos, que eu tirei a cores, e editar de forma a fazer ressaltar o melhor que elas têm. A magia do preto e branco é algo que me deixa muito agradado!
Escolhi as fotos da fachada de uma das Edificações mais conhecidas de Portugal - O Mosteiro de Alcobaça. Tendo sido iniciada a sua construção em 1178 pelos Monges da Ordem de Cister, é o primeiro edifício inteiramente gótico erguido em solo português (fonte).
Como podem ver nas fotos, a edificação em altura, com janelas amplas e de grandes dimensões (em altura), para além do imbricado trabalho de pedra é o que mais é impactante e mais impressionante.
Quando tenho oportunidade de visitar estes locais, perco-me sempre, tentando captar as sombras, os contrastes e as formas que me deixam como que hipnotizado pela sua riqueza e unicidade.
