Today, despite having a busy day, I'm not going to miss the usual TTT contest!
As has been customary for several weeks now, I'd also like to highlight the band of a birthday boy...
And today, for our twelfth birthday boy, we have Tony Kanal!
Kanal was born in Kingsbury, England, from where he moved to California when he was eleven.
Driven by his father to learn the saxophone, his favorite instrument, it ended up being his passion until the tenth grade.
At that point, and under the influence of his schoolmate and friend, David Carpenter, he began studying electric bass guitar. It has become his favorite instrument ever since.
Having been invited to No Doubt's first show on March 14, 1987, Tony joined the band at that time, aged 16.
He finished his degree in Psychology at the University of California, Fullerton.
He was undoubtedly one of the key players in the success of the first ten years of the American band's releases, which sweated and exuded energy, somewhat offsetting the more melancholic energy of other groups in the early 90s.
He produced, wrote and directed many other songs, but today I just want to highlight a few that were particularly important to me from his most eminent group.
Their relaxed ska sound captured my attention at the time, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who missed those times.
I hope you have as much fun as I did listening to these three songs by a group I really like, and which I haven't heard in over five years!

Como tem vindo a ser habitual, e já ao longo de várias semanas, quero também aqui destacar a banda de um aniversariante...
E para hoje, para o nosso décimo segundo aniversariante temos Tony Kanal!
Kanal nasceu numa cidade Inglesa, Kingsbury, de onde se iria a mudar para a California aos seus onze anos.
Impulsionado pelo seu pai a aprender saxofone, o seu instrumento favorito, acabou por ser a sua paixão até ao seu décimo ano de escolaridade.
Nessa altura, e por influência do seu colega de escola e seu amigo, David Carpenter, começou a estudar guitarra baixo electrica. Tendo-se tornado o seu instrumento preferido desde então.
Tendo sido convidado para o primeiro espetáculo dos No Doubt, em 14 de Março de 1987, Tony juntou-se à banda nessa altura, tendo então 16 anos.
Terminou a sua graduação em Psicologia na Universidade da Califórnia, em Fullerton.
Foi seguramente uma das peças chave para o êxito nos primeiros dez anos de lançamentos da banda america, que suava e transpirava energia, roturando de certa forma com a energia mais melancólica de outros grupos no início dos anos 90.
Produziu, escreveu e dirigiu muitas outras canções, mas hoje aqui quero apenas destacar algumas que me foram particularmente importantes do seu grupo mais em eminente.
A sua sonoridade ska e descontraída conquistou a minha atenção na altura, e tenho a certeza que não fui o único que ficou com saudades destes tempos.
Espero que se divirtam tanto como eu a escutar estas três canções de um grupo que eu muito aprecio, e que por acaso já não ouvia há mais de 5 anos!
