Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
456 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #140, I am 316 reviews behind!
Not picking randomly at the moment, I am focusing on Blood Angels to get them done before their new Codex comes out!
Blood Angels, Furioso Dreadnought
10th Edition Index
Right, so is this Dreadnought an exercise in redundancy?
Because this is the same sort of Dreadnought with a lot of the same options as the Death Company Dreadnought!
Is there any reason to take one over the other, or are most people going to opt for a Death Company Dreadnought?
They are 150pts and you cannot buy them anymore. I had thought that they were going to stay because of how long this Dreadnought was available in the Warhammer online store, but this was not the case!
Let's check his stats!
Stats
Movement 6" (Slower than the new or buffed Dreadnoughts)
Toughness 9
Save 2+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 8
Ld 6+
OC 3
Weapons
So their standard armament Frag Cannon and Furioso Fist with Storm Bolter. So this is a change to the Death Company Dreadnought that has only melee options.
The Furioso can then exchange the Frag and Fist for either Twin Furioso Fists or Twin Blood Talons, both with a built in Meltagun.
Both the Storm Bolter and the Meltagun can be exchanged for Heavy Flamers so you can either run dual flamers or Flamer/Meltagun. I like the latter as it has more versatility.
Running the Frag Cannon, I would probably go with a Heavy flamer since this Dreadnought, even with a gun, is made for Combat!
It can ALSO take a Magna Grapple... why would you not?
Ranged:
Heavy frag cannon
Range 18", D6 Attacks, Hits on a 3+, S7, Ap -1, 2 Damage each
Rapid Fire D6 (At half range of 12, he gets additional D6 attacks)
Blast (Add an additional attack for every 5 models rounding down in the target unit)
Storm Bolter
Range 24", 2 Attacks, Hits on a 3+, S4, Ap 0, 1 Damage each
Rapid Fire 2 (At half range of 12, he gets 2x additional attacks)
Meltagun
Range 12", 1 Attack, Hits on a 3+, S9, Ap -4, D6 Damage each
Melta 2 (At half range of 6", add 2 to the Damage of this weapon.)
Heavy Flamer
Range 12", D6 Attacks, Auto Hits, S5, Ap -1, 1 Damage each
Torrent (This weapon automatically hits, just roll a D6 to see how many attacks it gets)
Ignores Cover (Enemies to not get Benefit of Cover against this attack)
Melee:
Furioso Fist
5 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S12, Ap -3, 3 Damage each
Twin Furioso Fists
5 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S12, Ap -3, 3 Damage each
Twin-linked (You can re-roll To Wound Rolls)
Blood Talons
7 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S8, Ap -2, 3 Damage each
Twin-linked (You can re-roll To Wound Rolls)
Wargear Abilities
Magna-grapple
The Dreadnought loses the Smoke keyword most Astartes Vehicles has and instead gets a re-roll on the Charge if the target is a Vehicle or a Monster.
Abilities
Wrathful Rampage
When this unit is selected to fight, select an enemy unit in Engagement with this model. Roll a Dice and add 2 if the Dreadnought was charging.
On a 4-5 the enemy unit sufferers D3 Mortal Wounds.
On a 6 the enemy unit suffers 3 Mortal Wounds.
Thoughts
The Blood Talons/Twin Fist option on the two Dreadnoughts are exactly the same. Sure, it allowed the Blood Angels to spam 3x of one and 3x of another which I doubt anyone took advantage of.
The Heavy Frag Cannon is pretty good actually and a single Fist is the much the same to a Twin Fist option without the Twin-linked. On S12 (and S14 on the charge with Sons of Sanguinius) you will have +2 and 3+ to wound most things in the game.
This one has no FNP and a different Ability. I would probably take the Death Company Dreadnought if I just wanted to go pure combat ability.
The Frag/Fist/Magna Grapple version is what I would go for when I want a red one... lol
That makes 14 Blood Angels Reviewed putting them on 73.68% Completed! The total Completed is 14.31% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!
