#BeerSaturday - Breakaway Mango!

352 weeks of #beersaturday! That is more than 6 and 3/4 YEARS drinkin' every weekend now! So many beers yet to drink, 352 more weeks to do it!

Being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.

This week, I am a bit late but discovered a couple new IPAs from new-to-me breweries on the busy shelves in the craft beer section.

Pint of the Week

The Pint of the Week is partially responsible for me being a little late this week for #beersaturday. Into the big city for a weekend of hockey, rock & roll and BEER! This one is from a solid Toronto brewery called Henderson Brewing that is so rare I can't find it there online. I grabbed this one from the fridge and was cautioned that I might want to select a different one because it tasted like rung-out moldy carpet. I told them I would rather taste a new one for my legion of followers and ended up not thinking it was so bad.

This is a look at something else that was partially responsible for being occupied on Saturday but is a tale for another post.

Breakaway IPA

IMG_0962.JPG

I can't recall featuring or even tasting Fixed Gear Brewing Co. and was pleasantly surprised when I did a doubletake and checked out what looked like a Radler or boring light lager. The rock and roll weekend also had some hockey in it so it only seems appropriate that this one was named for a hockey play. I ALMOST had a real break away in our third game but couldn't get around my guy without running him over so it was for naught. Good thing I manage a breakaway in beer form? I love a new IPA especially when it is from a new to me brewery so here we go!

Breakaway IPA, despite its lack of label design, does have juicy and hazy, fruity notes and home of Guelph Ontario so this has to be good right? In my opinion, it might be a good beer to quench the thirst after a good brisk bike ride so they are pretty bang on with the branding I suppose. A tough light on the body and hop punch but a delightful beer nonetheless. I would have to classify it as I will have to try this again which are most beers that aren't terrible in all honesty.

Mango Tango

In another strange coincidence, I discovered another new IPA from another brewery I can't remember featuring. I am not sure if there are that many breweries I have still yet to discover or too many #beersaturdays in a row is starting to impact my memory. Either way, Brock Street Brewing Company brings the bold design, neat brewery logo and all the hazy and tropical fruit that will grab my attention at leas once from a busy craft beer shelf.

Mango Tango Hazy IPA actually has mango puree as an ingredient but it is funny to see it classified strictly as Sugars along with lactose sugar. I smashed this one during a gaming session and it fell down the hole quickly. Not too much bitterness to it but a slightly thicker texture, reasonably balanced sweet to hoppy balance and a modest 6% ABV. I will DEFINITELY have to try this one again as it was the better of the 2 and went down too easy not to give it a try again.

Would you try a new beer over an old favorite?

Sort:

Is it a mango beer time in Canada yet? I feel like this flavour is quite summery ;)

Apparently it is always fruity beer time in Canada. Almost every brewery establishes an IPA game and then busts one out with some sort of variation with a fruit mash. I think mango is a bullshit fruit but do enjoy it as part of a strong IPA. ;)

So there is a way mango can really be refined. First time I am seeing the mango beer

I would try a new one!

So there is something called the mango beer. Wow first time I am seeing this

Many of the IPAs have their bitterness balanced out with sweet, which has become tropical fruit in the marketing. Mango is one of these and they actually added mango puree to sweeten and thicken. Not bad but you have to not overdo it when adding fruit to beer.

Mango Beer?
Will it give a kind of mango taste or what?
It must be really nice though
