SHIELDBEARER
Lore: The Silver Shield of legend is locked securely away on Khymian holy ground, but expert Khymian Armorsmiths have made many replicas of the great Shield throughout the years. The Khymian soldiers who are called to carry these shields are known as Shieldbearers. Ironically, the Shieldbearers are trained to sacrifice their own bodies before their shields.
Position: front tank unit(aka main tank), back taunt unit(aka distraction).
Steps
First - create a visual sketch. you dont need to make it best but if you can, you do it.
on my sketch i want the shield to be emphasize. i also plan on putting silvershield warrior and silvershield paladin on his side but didnt put it in the end.
Second - start making the linings, tweak a little so it will be visually satisfying.
i created the shield bigger than on my sketch. except from that i follow what my sketch as much as posible.
dont be afraid to do a trial and error designing. i also make a folder for each part like head, shoulder, shield, legs and body so i can easily edit it in the future. it's ok also event the lining overlap each other, you can edit it later or just cover it with colors.
Third - put the base color this step will show you what to add or edit on your lining. if you have reference try to copy the color as much as posible since it tell everyone who's your art is.
i plan to make him in golden armor but when i read the lore i realize he's a silvershield unit to thats why i change some golden part to silver. i also put him in a cape since a have a plan in the future, but its a secret from now.
Fourth - this is the final step for the main subject and a very tricky one. puting highlights and shadow. just visualize where might be the light source is and you wont be having a hard time doing this.
i visualize mine source of light on upper left part of canvas since i plan on putting sunset or moonlight in there.
Fifth - put some background. its not my specialty since im a Tshirt designer but puting some shapes and be more imaginative on it.
mine visually on battlefield thats why a war flag and weapons will be on the background. you dont need to overdo it since you have a main character to emphasize. i also include the sunset i plan from the start.
