Hi community!
The coach warns that Atlético de Madrid has become a specialist in scoring in the final stretch.
Atlético de Madrid have become accustomed to scoring in the final minutes of matches this season. Simeone's men have already scored 22 goals, counting the three competitions, after the 75th minute. But what's more, half of those goals have come in injury time. And Hansi Flick is well aware of this fact. The coach even warned about it in his appearance before the media.
Barcelona have studied their opponents down to the smallest detail and are aware that Atlético de Madrid strike when the match is in the final stretch. "They score a lot of goals in the final minutes, and you have to be prepared," warned the coach on Friday morning. In 10 of the 17 LaLiga matches, the red-and-whites have celebrated goals after the 75th minute. This particular statistic started against Girona, when they made it 3-0 in the 94th minute.
Athletic Bilbao was also one of the victims. The Basques also saw the three points fly away in the 92nd minute when Correa scored the 0-1; against Valencia the 0-3 came in the 94th; and in Balaídos, the 0-1 in the 90th. The Madrid derby was particularly noteworthy. Real Madrid took the lead but Simeone's men equalised with a goal from Correa in the 95th.
Leganés, for its part, saw how they turned the 0-1 around with goals from Griezmann and Sorloth in the 81st and 99th minutes. The same scenario happened to Alavés and with goals from the same protagonists. Against Las Palmas they scored the 2-0 in the 83rd minute and in Valladolid, the 0-5 in the 92nd minute. To find the last precedent in LaLiga, you don't have to look too far back. On December 8, against Sevilla, Lino and Griezmann, in the 79th and 94th minutes, left the three points at the Metropolitano.
But this statistic is not only true in La Liga. In the Champions League, Atlético de Madrid have also specialised in pulling off a surprise in the final stretch. They beat Leipzig in the 90th minute; PSG in the 93rd; and against Sparta Prague they rounded off the rout in the 85th and 89th minutes.
And if there is one competition where they have specialised in this matter, it is in the Copa del Rey. All of Atlético's goals have come after the 80th minute. They scored against Vic in the 81st and 89th minutes, and against Cacereño in the 83rd, 92nd and 95th minutes. Hansi Flick has already detected this strong point of Simeone's men. They have been warned.
