Hi community!
FC Barcelona will host Bayern Munich at the Estadi Lluís Companys on Wednesday 23 October. The match is part of the third round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, prior to the knockout phase.
First big test for Flick's Barça: Europe and dark memories. The Heidelberg-born coach will face his former team, Bayern, one of the main protagonists of the Catalans' dark past in the Champions League. Hansi Flick is completing a sensational start to his project, both in terms of play and results. In the League, the Catalans are the sole leaders with 27 points, 3 above Real Madrid, and 7 behind Atlético, third in the table. The German coach took the reins of an emotionally 'touched' team and has managed to recover it, even though the circumstances have not been entirely favourable: injuries, problems with play carried over from the previous project and the common pressure of Can Barça.
The Champions League is a different story, and this season the team led by the German coach has yet to export its league performance. The team suffered a defeat against Monaco in the first matchday, but recovered in the second by beating Young Boys 5-0. The Blaugranas arrive with very positive feelings after the 5-1 victory against Sevilla and the recent return of several injured players such as Gavi, Fermín, Olmo and Frenkie de Jong.
Bayern, for its part, is launching a new project and the similarities with Barça are obvious, starting with the height of its defensive line and the pressure on the opposition's ball out. With a project also starting this season, Vincent Kompany's team, former manager of Burnley in England, plays brave and intense football without the ball.
See You soon! 🏐
