#BeerSaturday - Camping and Great Lakes IPA!

364 straight weeks of #beersaturday means we have almost been at this as many weeks as there are days in a whole year. Cheers to that!

Being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.

This week, I am diving face first into the haul from the Great Lakes Brewery bottle shop from last weekend!

Pint 'O the Week!

The PotW is a fan favourite because it is usually a beer enjoyed on the town or otherwise in a social or business setting that we don't get to visit all the time. This week, it is actually part of the reason this #beersaturday post is a little late. Flying Monkeys Yummo Citrus Punch IPA was definitely consumed on a weekend in a social gathering type of setting.

The real reason was a little camping on the weekend but that will have to wait for another post as this still is #beersaturday even though it is Tuesday. The beer itself was like hoppy fruit punch with all that fruit puree. I assure you it was yummier than that sounds and is aptly named! Not a bad camping beer at all!

Back to Great Lakes

Readers from last week might recall my visit to the big city and my favourite brewery Great Lakes Brewing A check to in with the bottle shop and I was flush with new and limited IPAs for the sampling. Today, we get into them!

Karmadelic IPA

IMG_1958.JPG

Every spring, Great lakes comes up with some neat seasonal IPAs I wish were in the year-round rotation. It started with Karma Citra which is quite possibly my favourite beer on the planet. Not in my top 10 because it is not available year round but still damn good. Then there is Citradelic, Karma Sabro and all of the other variations which are all good in their own right. What a nice surprise to find the next iteration right there in the cooler

The back of the Karmadelic IPA tells the tale of what is different about this beer compared to the other karma varieties. Turns out it is a new hop called Superdelic from New Zealand which is known to produce unique flavours and aromas of Red Fruit, Candy/ Lolly, Citrus, and Tropical Fruit. If you look closely at the PotW, it also boasts Superdelic on the dry hop and it is probably not a fruity coincidence. The only thing I like more than this beer is the fact I have one last one in the fridge I will be able to enjoy for a special occasion later on this week.

VAVROOOM!

IMG_1982.JPG

I am a known sucker for a goofy label that has New England IPA on it. Even more so when it is from Great Lakes and didn't hesitate to grab a few of these. Another vague tale on the other side of the can that is more icing than cake but this might be as sweet as such with the fruity candy description.

There is not more specific information on the page for Vavrooom New England IPA and I am wondering whether they tossed Superdelic into the mix on this one as well. The beer itself was the best of the lot with a delicious lighter but still serious body, citrussy but not acidic flavour, an all around deliciousness that compelled me to finish 3 in a row in a single evening!

Capping off a great visit to one of my favourite tap rooms, Vavroom was the most pleasant surprise and a wonderful new beer I only hope will be brewed again. Well done old friend!

Do you Camp? What's your Camping Beer?

Sort:

Looks so good. Unfortunately I have learned that I have gout and I can no longer drink beer. Unless I can find a no-purine beer… a beer without wheat, yeast and low alcohol ? I have heard that rice beer might be ok ? Some Japanese and Chinese beer is made with Rice. Have any ideas ? Maybe I just take Allipurinol ?

You seem to had a good weekend.
must be nice to spend the weekend camping : ) and some beer.

Looks like you had an awesome time camping with those IPAs. Cheers to finding those hidden gems man. Happy Beer Happy Dear hehehehehe

I'd end up getting hammered if I was to try and review beers or spirits. Not sure how you do it. They all look so good.

These beers are really tempting. The cans are also beautiful and will make you want to have some even though you may not know the exact taste😁
Nice one!

I could see you're fist beer being good for camping. When you consume a lot of beer in a day it can be nice to have something different and fruity to break up the monotony and re-set your taste buds.

Also, why is it that IPAs always have to most fun and interesting cans? They are always super colorful and busy lol

I think it is because they are all the rage with bearded hipsters and they are mostly just sport-hopped messes trying to be different and bold. Labels just match.

Plus Flying Monkeys has always been wild and silly since before IPAs were a thing and they come by it honestly.

bearded hipsters

😂

Flying Monkeys has always been wild... they come by it honestly.

Yeah that's true.

Now that's a trip I'd be up for ;) Cheers :)
