New Ford Puma | A Crossover SUV that thinks it’s a car?

in #cars23 days ago

The Ford Puma has been a firm favourite in the UK since its reintroduction as a stylish crossover. Now, it’s back and better than ever (although the way they launched the coupe back in the late ‘90’s was a thing of beauty)

With a tech-savvy overhaul, a sporty new design, and an emphasis on practicality, the new Ford Puma combines urban sophistication with the capability of a crossover. Starting from around £26,500.00, it’s a compelling option for modern drivers seeking style, space, and advanced tech in a city-friendly package.

We had the chance to experience the Puma ST-Line X first hand, equipped with a 1L petrol mHEV engine producing 125 PS, a manual gearbox, and an array of features, all wrapped in the sleek new Cactus Grey. Here’s everything you need to know about this revamped crowd-pleaser.

The New Ford Puma retains its signature coupe-inspired silhouette but now exudes a more refined and contemporary vibe. The updated exterior includes bold bumper designs, a unique front grille for each trim level, and stunning alloy wheel options. The introduction of Cactus Grey to the colour palette adds a touch of understated elegance.

But it’s not just about looks. The Puma has always been about blending style with practicality, and the new model is no exception. With an 80-litre MegaBox hidden in the boot floor, it’s surprisingly versatile.

Perfect for everything from your weekly shop to storing muddy boots after a countryside hike, the MegaBox makes the Puma a practical companion for active lifestyles. Even with five passengers on board, there’s still more than 450 litres of boot space—enough for golf clubs or a dog cage.

Inside, the new Puma is all about creating a calm and connected environment. The cabin now boasts a 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.0-inch high-definition touchscreen, mounted high on the dash for easy access. The screens are angled towards the driver, giving a cockpit-style feel, while minimizing physical buttons for a clean, uncluttered look.

The SYNC 4 infotainment system is twice as powerful as its predecessor, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a host of voice-activated features. Alexa Built-in is a standout addition, letting you check your calendar, manage your commute, or play your favourite playlist hands-free.

Comfort hasn’t been overlooked either. A sliding centre armrest and a sporty, flat-bottom steering wheel bring a touch of luxury, while the optional B&O sound system ensures your soundtrack is as stylish as your surroundings.

Ford’s latest driver-assistance tech turns city driving from a chore into a joy. Highlights include:
• Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centring, which adjusts to traffic and keeps you in your lane with ease.
• Predictive Speed Assist, which slows the car for junctions and curves for a smoother, safer drive.
• A 360-degree surround-view camera system to help you navigate tight parking spaces and busy streets without breaking a sweat.

The new Dynamic Matrix LED headlights go beyond a striking design. They illuminate corners and curves with Predictive Dynamic Bending Light, making night driving safer and less stressful.

The new Puma is powered by Ford’s award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost Hybrid engine, offering up to 155 PS for a perfect balance of power and efficiency. For those craving a sportier drive, the new Puma ST Powershift delivers up to 170 PS through a responsive seven-speed automatic gearbox. With a chassis tuned by Ford Performance, it promises a thrilling yet composed ride.

Even the standard models feel lively and engaging, with mild-hybrid technology boosting performance and fuel efficiency. Ford has announced an all-electric Puma Gen-E later this year, signalling an exciting future for eco-conscious drivers.

From daily commutes to weekend adventures, the new Puma is designed to keep up with every aspect of your life. Its compact size makes it perfect for city driving, while the spacious interior ensures there’s room for the whole family—and their gear.

The MegaBox remains one of the Puma’s most innovative features. Its waterproof lining and drain plug mean it can handle muddy gear, ice-filled coolers, or anything else your adventures throw at it. Meanwhile, practical touches like the sliding centre armrest and versatile storage spaces add to the Puma’s everyday usability.

The model we tested, the ST Line X, felt like the perfect balance of performance, style, and comfort. Equipped with the Driver Assistance Pack, Matrix LED headlights, and a panoramic sunroof, it was packed with premium features that elevate the driving experience.

In the ST Line X, sporty details like the flat-bottom steering wheel and unique trim accents make the cabin feel dynamic and upscale. The addition of the Winter Pack, which includes heated seats and a heated steering wheel, ensured that even frosty mornings were no challenge.

At around £32,500, this trim offers exceptional value, combining luxury features with everyday practicality.

The 2024 Ford Puma takes everything drivers loved about the original and adds a hefty dose of tech, comfort, and practicality. Whether you’re navigating city streets, packing for a family weekend, or simply enjoying the thrill of the open road, the Puma delivers.

With its sharp design, advanced features, and versatile interior, the new Puma feels like a crossover built for modern life. And with the electric Puma Gen-E on the horizon, it’s clear that Ford isn’t just keeping up with the times—they’re shaping the future.

Thank you all, and enjoy!

Seems to be a great Hybrid SUV... not available in Canada. Maybe this puma doesn't like snow 😅
Have a great monday

It's such a pity that it won't come to Canada - and I have to say that snow is pretty to look at, but an absolute pain to travel in.

Thank you @heroldius - hope all is well with you?

Still love my 90s Puma, the most reliable car I've ever had and, until recently, an absolute dream to drive, city, motorway or B road, I loved how easy it was. I had the clutch replaced recently and it is fierce ad sometimes quite hard work to drive. Maybe it can be adjusted? 🤔

This one looks nice, though, not quite as cat-like, and I'm always moving houseplants!

I was thinking I would get a hybrid or electric next time round, so I'll be interested to see the Puma version.

Still no place for a handbag, though. Sigh.

PS never sell it, or if you are intent on please tell us :) every Puma we looked at had chronic rust - Any word on a NW meet? maybe we could plan one? :)

@shanibeer - incase you missed this, Annabelle and I are positing an idea for a shindig now we have an acre plus :) more soon

Wow, didn't realise you had a Puma @shanibeer - that's awesome! It really is going to be interesting to see what the potential EV version is like, but like you, I doubt very much that there will be any place to put a handbag though. It's like clothes - why is still an issue to put pockets in clothes for women? It's bonkers.
