BYD EVs are burning en masse(?)

in #carslast year

I don't know what to think about it, you better see for yourself and see what you think. Apparently, BYD electric cars have serious problems with spontaneous combustion. Or is it fake? These reports are only from China, and yet BYDs are sold in many other regions of the world. Have you heard of such BYDs burning in other countries?

We have had over 7000 BYD electric vehicles sold in Australia in the last year or so and no fires from these.

So even if there was one such case, it comes out as a percentage of about 0.015%. This is definitely not "burning en masse".

Correct.

Hello, friend.
BYD electric cars don't exist in my country, but their combustion engine cars have been running on the streets of Cuba for years. A few years ago, there were several cases where some models would catch fire while turned off and with no apparent reason, so from my experience, it wouldn't be hard to believe the news. Although BYD has demonstrated great quality in their vehicles, these malfunctions in their cars are not new.

Thank you for your reply. In Poland, I have never seen any BYD on the street, which theoretically are available. We'll see if maybe others will write something about it.

The EV industry claims that EVs are less likely to catch fire than gas powered cars.

Combustion cars work by combining fuel with oxygen in the air.

Batteries contain the chemicals that they need for fire.

This means that it is easier to put out a gas fire than a burning battery.

Car batteries react with salt water. So there is often a rash of car fires after a hurricane.

There have been reports of numerous battery fires in China. Apparently there were problems with certain batteries. The CCP tends to cover up problems ... which seems to make problems worse.

There have been a few recalls of car batteries in the US.

Many people recharge their cars in their garage. There have been cases where EVs caught fire in the garage and burned down the house.

Apparently firefighters have problems with such EV fires as they cannot put out the fire with standard firefighting techniques.

In the long run, EVs are likely to be less likely to catch fire than gas powered cars.

Sometimes I have the impression that someone is deliberately trying to exaggerate the problem of burning EVs.
