Faith in Impending Hard Times
Good morning and happy Friday! I wanted to get this started, and I just wanted to thank God for preserving me this week. I hope you all had a great week and I wanted to share some thoughts with you.
The past 3 years have been crazy with the pandemic lockdown, business and economic shutdowns, economic issues, and the health issues with the actual pathogen have made turmoil the norm. It seems like a return to "normalcy" is far off.
Strikes, geopolitical tension, and many more issues have led to feelings of uncertainty for many. What once felt like solid ground underneath our feet no longer feels that way. I know that our collective employment is even in question as we may see more layoffs in the news.
What then can we do? There's just so many issues that are rising on a geopolitical and worldwide level, and we need to have some kind of a grounding. If we rely upon the media or government to tell us the way or to reduce our anxiety, we are going to fall short of the goal- stability in our lives really is the goal.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs is that pyramid you've probably seen many times in an educational setting. It shows us that our physical needs are top priority as the base of our life's motivation, and as the economy contracts and fears of the pandemic still are circulating, the stability that we crave is eroding at the base. Out basic needs form the base of the pyramid which establishes a baseline for our sanity- what we need to survive now is faith.
We've made it through the good times, and now it looks like we may have some issues. We're not officially in a recession, but it looks like we could soon slip into one. Faith is really what drives our World- it's like an engine that pushes the collective efforts of humanity. Faith powers the currencies that we use, faith supports the earnings reporting and strategies of publically traded companies that make up the stock market and faith is something that can be in short supply as that bottom of the pyramid erodes. Faith and hope for the future are what we need.
A certain collective madness can overshadow reality. We make bad decisions when we're hungry, when we're tired or when we are fearful. I'm not saying to have blind faith in schemes or anything of that nature, but having faith that things will eventually be okay is healthy. The belief that "I will make it through this" and that the value or the underlying assets we own and our lives is unchanged is key.
The media itself is going to try to sell the idea that the world is ending that the roof is falling, and that what we have value in is going to be changed. The push the narrative that there's a "new normal" and it's going to come it's a plot to take everything that you've worked for and take away the perceived value of what you have. Do not fall for this- what has value today will have value tomorrow so don't panic sell don't make rash decisions now is the time to hold.

Be like the turtle. When a turtle gets spooked, it pulls into its shell. The turtle does it discard its shell because it feels like the world is ending. It does it run around and do crazy things because it feels like there may be some uncertainty. No, it has faith that it shall will be able to hold it together. Have faith now. I'm not saying be stupid, but what I am saying is you should definitely withdraw a bit and stop and look at what's really going on. When the turtle is in its shell, it can still see what's going on. It has certain membranes that keep it safe it's not taking wild risks, but it's not doing anything crazy. It's chilling and it's making sure that it's surroundings are safe. When the threat has passed, the turtle remains and goes back to its life.
My recommendation in these times of uncertainty is to do well at work- continue being that star performer and don't let anxiety dictate your day to day. In addition to that, saving money is great. I am not obsessed with money but I understand that it's a tool that will help me do what I need to do. Saving an emergency fund that will be able to help you is good for your peace of mind, and it's good for your financial security. Keep saving for retirement and keep investing. I haven't stopped investing in stocks just because my portfolio is down and likewise keep investing in cryptocurrency. Continue your plans and don't let the news of the "sky falling" make you do crazy things. Don't make crazy options trades just because it seems cool at the time keep on the path. Large institutions have a vested interest in keeping you fearful so they can profit off of you. Breath and have faith it will be alright.
Having faith takes faith. It's circular and it comes with experience. There has to be a base for your faith-I have faith in God and faith that I'll be provided for. I know I can work hard enough with my god-giving attributes to continue on have that face and continue to move forward bless you all don't give in to the fear and just keep on pushing through.
