Review
This is one of the most charming, music related 20 minute comedy sketches this viewer has seen.
Henry is a better stand-up than he is a rockstar - well, that’s according to him, on this YouTube video - it seems as much as Henry has tried, he just couldn’t make it to the top tier of rock superstardom.
This sketch centres on Henry’s three shared gigs with Iggy - each time he tries to outdo “the master “ with his own stage performances, to desperate, hopeless and unpredictable results. The mock anger with which he rails against Iggy, is all tongue in cheek though - it’s very obvious Henry admires him to the max - yet try as hard as he can - he just can’t keep up with Iggy’s ability, fitness or animal rock instincts - despite his overwhelming gym fitness routine and tofu diet.
There’s two Iggy’s according to Henry - there’s James Osterberg - the polite, well spoken cool guy who shakes everyone’s hand and knows every one of Henry‘s band members’ names - then there’s the feral rock monster, Iggy Pop, prowling in the wings before each of his primal sets.
This is so funny - especially the third meeting, where Henry, The Cure and Iggy are all on the same festival bill together somewhere in Finland - and rock hell breaks loose.
Iggy even “bleeds beautifully”, according to Henry, recounting a time when Iggy took a leap onto a backline speaker cabinet before it collapses on top of him.
While Iggy says of Henry, “He’s a nice boy, we are friends.”
