In one of my older posts I talked about calisthenics and trying to get back into fitness. I also mentioned that in the past I have quickly burned myself out and that I think one of the reasons is because I never got my diet right. After all, to really succeed in fitness it’s not just about the workouts, a huge part is what we put into our bodies to give us the energy and the right nutrition.
Since becoming a vegetarian and also not eating dairy, more to the vegan side of things I guess but not quite there yet. I do struggle sometimes to know what to eat when trying to gain muscle. Of course it’s very possible to gain just as much muscle on a vegan/vegetarian diet as you would eating meat. For me I think it's just lack of information on the best things to eat, also a big thing for me is knowing what to make with these ingredients. I’m always looking for more recipes, especially fast recipes that don’t take like 50 different ingredients.
I already knew some great foods to eat when trying to gain muscle but I wanted to learn a bit more on it and and what foods I should be eating. There’s so much different great foods to eat and I’d go on forever if I were to list them all out. I do eat some of these foods already but I know I should eat a lot more. Here is a list of the most common foods I’ve found when trying to gain muscle.
Beans. (Has to be first on the list for me as there’s a range of beans to add into your diet that are high in protein, my favourite being chickpeas).
Lentils
Tofu
Tempeh
Edamame
Almonds
Peanuts
Cashews
Chia seeds
Quinoa
Oats
Sweet potatoes
Leafy greens
Banana (Of course a wide range of fruits).
Avocados.
There is so much great foods to incorporate in your diet when trying to gain muscle and sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed when trying to figure out what’s the best ones to eat and incorporate in my meals. There is also so much different informations and help with meal plans online. I think I have to do a bit more research and find what recipes/meal plans suit me best.
I’m sure I’ll find loads of delicious recipes I can try out and when I do I'll let you know how it goes.
I would love to get some feedback if anyone has some good tips or fast recipes/meal plans/smoothies that you like to use.
Thank you for reading :)
