The Holy Month of Ramadan Begins

in #culture3 years ago

In some parts of the world the holy month of Ramadan started from yesterday. In my Country Oman it starts from today. In this month people of the faith observes fast throughout the day from Sunrise to Sunset, absolutely not consuming any food and water. Not consuming food is still good, but not consuming water or any other liquids is a bit difficult. When I was back in India, I was not much associated with this part of culture and hence I was not even very sensitive about it. But now living in a Middle East Country my understanding and sensitivity towards this culture has changed.

The holy month of Ramadan is just not about fasting, but it is also a period of reflections and retrospections. A lot of charity work happens in this period and also a time to be kind to one own self. But this is what I do not agree with completely. Besides the fasting part, I believe that all the other parts associated to the holy month should be followed at all times in our lives. Why should we only be kind to our self in this month and why not through out. Why should be abstain from any vices only during this period and why not all the time. Reflections and retrospections should just not be in this time, but all the time.

While this is a month of fasting, at the same time it is also a month of feast. At the sunset when the fast is broken, there is an iftar, it means a meal at the break of the fast. There are community gathering that happens and lavish meal spreads are there. Restaurants have special iftar meals, and people indulge into heavy meals in this time period for the whole duration of 30 days. The people of this culture invite their friends from other different cultures to join in for the Iftar.

It is very important to take good care of health in this duration, specially in the middle east right now when the temperature has started soaring high it is important that the person stays well hydrated, hence it's important that the one following takes good amount of rest and keeps the body relaxed as much as possible. At the same time, it is also important to keep the body active with exercise. The Gyms in my city has changed timings for this month. It opens from 2 p.m. till 1 a.m. This is the only part that I am not comfortable with personally for myself, because now my classes will be late in the evenings, and I prefer morning or early evenings work outs. But then it is a matter of one month, so it will fly off.

Diet is the most important part that one has to be careful about, means consuming a lot of fruits and foods with high water content to keep the body well hydrated in the fasting hours. Also people with Insulin issues need to be mindful with their sugar levels in this period. I believe that yes this is a period of good self care and self love.

This year the people in my city are in high spirits as after 2 years there are no more Covid restrictions, the difficult times have been left behind and people can once again unite with their family and friends and spend their month following with Eid celebrations after the 30 days of Ramadan gets over.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

Good day @nainaztengra thank you for that post, very informative. I worked with several ladies from India, and I was always impressed with their fasting during Ramadan. But I was even more impressed with how gentle and lovely these gals were all the time. We were health care workers, diagnostic imagers and worked great together.

Good luck and good health for your holy month, and beyond.

True, it is always a marvel for me as well to see all of them do it so graciously.

Hello 🙋‍♀️
Ramadan is the month of mercy and blessings and we look forward to it. I love crowded iftar tables. I agree with what you said about Ramadan, people should always be honest and respectful to their environment and themselves. It should be like this not only because it is a religious obligation in Ramadan, but because it comes from our heart and because of human love. Thank you for your informative sharing and sensitivity about Ramadan. Love from Turkey 🤗

Ramadan Kareem to you and have a great fast.
