Out in the Fields - Starting my dCrops journey!

I recently decided to start playing and investing in the Hive blockchain game dCrops and this will be a journal of my progression from total newbie to hopefully rich landowner!

Before I can even think about stepping into this whole new world, however, I have to thank all the people who helped me in this journey in Hive blockchain gaming, which are the friends of the hive.pizza community (https://hive.pizza/), a place where you can find much more than a cozy and helpful environment, but a whole new way of gaming and earning while supporting eachother.

The hive.pizza community is definitely a good place to start for someone who's new to Hive, if you don't trust me just try before deny!
After all who doesn't love a good tasty chunk of pizza?

Lands and Seeds

To be a successful farmer you need to grow fruit and vegetables, and every plant starts from a seed. But every seed needs a land to be sowed and thrive, so these are the very first basic element you need to start a farm in dCrops.

In the game there are four seasons, exactly like in real life, and for every season there are different seeds you can plant in your land, with 4 different rarities, common, rare, epic and legendary.

These are the available seeds for the summer season.

Lands too can have the same 4 rarities, and the highest rarity a land is the more seeds you can plant in it, and the more possibility there is to get higher crop yields.

Let's go shopping

I wanted to start my journey with an investment of around 100 Hive, so I decided to buy different seeds and lands, considering also the quests that the game prompted me to do.

Even if blueberries are the most expensive seed for this season, I wanted to buy one anyway because they produce a lot of crops and also have a special ability: they continue to produce until the end of the seson, without the need to buy another seed. With the added bonus of completing 2 quests I decided to go for it and buy my first legendary seed!

Of course I also needed some land for the seeds to be planted, and since I bought a legendary seed, why not buying also a land that could suit its rarity? Well, unfortunately a legendary land would have left me with no more money to buy other things, so I settled for an epic one, considering the seed is the most important element to get a good yield of crop, while I could do with also lands of lower rarity.

Along with these first purchase I also bought other seeds and enough lands to sow them, here's a list of what I put in my shopping cart:

Seeds:
  • 1 Blueberry
  • 2 Tomato
  • 4 Watermelon
  • 2 Turnip
  • 5 Wheat
Lands:
  • 1 Awesome land (epic)
  • 4 Fertile land (rare)

Total Hive spent: 102.792

With all these seeds and lands I believe I can start my journey into dCrops on the right tracks, with enough possibilities to experiments with different coltures and lands, to evaluate what are the best yielding crops, how to rotate coltures in the right way and how to sell fruits and vegetables on the market to earn shares of the seasonal rewards.

In the fields

And finally comes the time to go out and find a place for every seed I have in the bag!

Here are my plots after I planted all the seeds!

I decided to sow blueberries and tomatoes in the epic field, because they're the highest yielding seeds and also have the special ability to keep producing crops until the end of the season.
I planted watermelons right away to complete my quests, because they take 12 days to grow, but I kept some wheat for the next round of sowings because it takes only 3 days, so I think it could be a good one to choose after the turnips, that I also bought to complete some quests, hoping this decision will repay me.

I can't wait to see all my seeds grow into tasty vegeables and I'm looking forward to my first harvest!

I hope you enjoyed the tale of this wannabe farmer and I'll try to keep you updated with my next steps in the world of dCrops, planning my future moves, choosing the best purchases for next season and analysing the rewards I can get from my first summer in the game.

I'm also looking forward to the start of the beta presale the 25th of July, a great chance to get some packs at a discount price along with some juicy bonus, even if I couldn't wait that long to try this interesting game! :)
