A lot of companies are now being mindful about their sustainability initiatives and adhering to them. One Company has reached out to me to help them in completing their Ecovadis survey. Ecovadis is the company which assesses businesses sustainability practices based on four key categories, which are environmental impact, labor, and human rights standards, ethics, and procurement practices. For every theme there is a set of questions which evaluates the company on that theme and assesses if they are following the sustainability practices or not. If there are right certifications procured or not.
It's a very exhaustive survey and a very complexed one also. Based on the answers in the survey there is a score given which remains valid for 1 years and during this time, the company can work on their gaps and work towards improvement which are identified by Ecovadis.
Most of the manufacturing businesses these days look for such certifications to validate their standards in the market. All these companies are expected to take actions which results in to reductions in their CO2 emissions, moving away from hazardous raw materials, reducing waste and disposing off their waste in the most organic manner.
These are some good practices that every company should follow, because metrics and data is everything today, when everything is data driven, gaps can be easily identified and improvement areas can be worked upon. Companies need to be mindful about their biodiversity and ecosystems. Many companies I know make policies but barely adhere to them because there is no external governance to them. When an external governance takes place then they have no choice but to make sure that they follow the policies and have appropriate reporting to it.
Afterall these manufacturing units are the major contributors to pollution and they are the ones who need to take major action to make sure that they reduce their carbon footprint. We only have one Earth and we need to thrive it and not deplete it. We have to grow but in an organic manner.
