My expectation is ETH will soon enough (this year or early next year) finally will go PoS.
Approximately of 6 months without generating any new ETH (if I understand that right reading things around) and network fees being burned ETH will be deflationary for a bit and said to be be of a supply of around 129mil ETH etc.
I saw some news that EU and world governments putting pressure on BTC community to follow ETH's path turning it to PoS too, for the argument sake of climate change or whatever else they claims to be the reason.
Just to be clearer I don't stand anywhere with the arguments of PoS vs PoW.
I am as a technology enthusiast care about understanding what is happening around, how it may impact the technology and it's use cases, what might increase it's utility and usage further resulting in increase of it's value even more.
Pushing BTC community towards PoS is an agenda coming from Rich folks and govts combined. There are laws in play which will impact on PoW mining and are already regorusly evolving further in the same direction all around globe.
My expectation is doesn't matter in next 5+ years to till 2030 how things go about PoW vs PoS, in any case I expect the general idea and favourable from non-tech users will be influenced much towards PoS, despite whatever good or bad arguments there are towards PoW.
That means I expect heated debates/market conditions kind of the similar way we have experienced the block size wars back in 2017-2018 around.
In such scenarios, ETH definitely can and expected to gain much greater percentage wise gain as compared to whatever BTC percentage wise gains will have.
But there are logical and ethical concerns around ETH going full on PoS and what happens afterward. Like Vitalik and others fear of more centralization in staking as compared to PoW mechanism.
In such kind of situation, my expectation is flipping of BTC/ETH position as top 2 markets overall.
But it just doesn't end there...
and since non-PoW based systems will be the highlight in such environment, we can expect much more experimental tech and mathematical solutions coming from researches in market which may next role in market becoming top gainers for the next cycle.
that's where the dogecoin kind of armies might find home.
