I've been promising myself a trip to the gym all week but something has always seemed to pop up whether a work meeting during the day, or needing to fit dinner into the equation. I need to get more organised on the food front is lesson 1!
I was going to go yesterday but I woke with a mild gouty foot. It wasn't painful to the point I couldn't go, but I'm always conscious of the potential for joint damage. I popped some of my pills and they seemed to do the trick. No excuses this morning. I woke up, had a cup of tea, waited for the wife to get in from walking the dog and headed straight off without thinking about it too much.
I started with a warm up on the treadmill. It's always a nice place to start as, well it has a jolly nice view!
I went for a fast walk with a little incline as I tend to struggle with running these days as the back isn't what it once was ... or is my balance when it comes to treadmills! I then transferred to the rowing machine.
I was intent on taking it steady as although I have been swimming, this is the first gym session in a long while. I tend to push myself as I've a competitive edge but am wary I'm not as young or fit as I once was. Rowing tick - no issues there.
Then it was time for the exercise bike for some intervals. Against my better judgement, I pushed a little hard and started to feel light headed so decided to call it quits without doing any weights. I had to sit in the changing rooms for a few minutes before getting ready to leave like the fatty I am 🙂. Ultimately felt much better for it though ... well once I'd recovered.
As an old pal once told me, "there's no such thing as a bad workout regardless of what you think".
The next hurdle is not leaving it another 4 months before doing it again!
